I'm going to India and Nepal this year - Book suggestions please!

I'll be visiting Northern India and some of Nepal later this year, and I would love some book suggestions to acquaint myself a bit with the area.

I am definitely looking for a couple really good nonfiction books about the area, and I might add a few fiction to the reading list.

Any suggestions would be welcome!

I would recommend A Passage to India. It's fiction, yes, but it's a wonderful novel with beautiful descriptions of India, especially of the evenings.
