I went to Debra's profile, and it looks like it was Hunted that she completed for this challenge.
It occured to me as I was reading my 2nd Australia book,
that it could apply to this challenge, so here is my score.I am representing Australia and the sport of Biathlon

O: 4 Points - Orange on the cover (my copy has an orange sticker saying this won the orange prize - which is probably stretching it)
L: 5 Points - Length is between 300-400 pages long (based on the edition you read or as per rule #6).
A measly 9 points (and that's probably actually only 5) but it was a really good book that I was going to read anyway.

It was a really good book, Helen. I'll give you the 4 points for "orange" on the cover. Orange you glad? *groan* (Thought I'd get the groan in there before anyone else did.)
Thanks janice - for the points, if not the groan worthy joke.
Looking at some of the scores so far this month I know I'm in no danger of trooubling the leader board. But if I loose the glue stick because you've been lenient and allowed me those extra 4 points, I will accuse you of being a meany of the highest order. >;-)

Representing the US in figure skating, I have read Murder on Ice

5 points--theme is figure skating
3 points--lady on the cover (the bottom half of one)
5 points--Title starts with "M"
5 points--cold, set in winter (I think it is winter; it is the world championship, and anyway, most of the characters spend most of their time in ice arenas, and the main character wears a parka.)

And here I was debating about giving you extra points for the non-human protagonist because Achilles is half god. But he's also half human, and so we'll aim for the glue stick award.
I may have to solicit some help since I don't have very sophisticated software.

Good job on your first challenge. Unfortunately, I have to subtract the points for page length. The criteria was between 300-400 pages. This book is over 500.
That's a total of 45 points.

Is the link going to the edition you read? If so, add 4 points for orange on the cover.
Funny, I didn't even notice that. I was looking for something more obviously orange I guess. I checked the actual book and those lights are orange! thanks Janice. :)
Janice wrote: "Diane wrote: "I read Eclipse of the Crescent Moon by Géza Gárdonyi. It is about the Turkish siege of Eger, Hungary back in the 16th century. So, I will be represent..."
That's okay. I misinterpreted it. However, I did think of something else that adds more points while I was driving in my car today. The book qualifies for 3 points for taking place in 3 or more countries. I forgot about when some of the characters journeyed from Hungary to Istanbul, Turkey to free another character from prison. The book told about their travels through Wallachia (in present day Romania) and Bulgaria.
This will bring my new total to 48 points.
I'm glad you found some extra points to make up for those that I deducted! I'll update my spreadsheet.

This sounds like a very interesting book, Thing Two. I need some clarification on your scoring.
How much of the narrative is set in the UK? I ask this because the author says, "The collection is of 264 Japanese netsuke. It is the common thread for the story of its three Jewish owners and the three rooms in which it was kept over a period of a hundred and forty years." Those three rooms, he goes on to say, were the art critic's study in Paris, his great grandmother's dressing room in Vienna, and his great uncle's apartment in Tokyo. He doesn't mention the UK.
You claim points for a memoir, and say that the main character is non-human. Is the netsuke narrating the story? The author says it's a biography of the collection and a biography of his family.
I'll allow for the main character points since he says it's a biography of the collection. But I'll need clarification on the other 13 points.

Oh, snap! I just finished reading this book, too! It is worth more than the book I already submitted.
Diane, you may read more than one book for the challenge. We count the highest rated book. So, if this book is higher than your first book, then we will count this book. Hold off though, until we get the score sorted out.

Sarah, how are we differentiating you from our other Sarah? What name is your wall under?
Okay. I recall seeing a conversation about Sarah Jigz somewhere. I just checked and you haven't received a badge yet so don't have a wall! You will soon, though. I will set up a wall for you.ETA - It was for the year long challenge that we had the discussion. We have you as Sarah Jigz for your thread there. So we ill be consistent with that.

I didn't watch the hockey game, but one of my clients was ignoring my texts because she was glued to the tv. Then a bit later, I was having lunch with a friend when we heard lots of cheering from the kitchen of the restaurant. It must have been the winning goal.
