What Becky said. This is a different book though. This is the first of the prequels. It's very good though. The book, that is. Not sure about the reader.

Which was already derailed by TWOK talk. So we're like two rails off.

The re-release is actually Theft of Swords, which is The Crown Conspiracy and Avempartha. Same reader though as The Crown Tower though.

Was that...
a Star Trek reference??!
Becky, I think I love you.
Yeah? I was packing some old books at the house and ran across this: Starfleet Academy Student Handbook
Chris wrote: "Yeah? I was packing some old books at the house and ran across this: Starfleet Academy Student Handbook"*gasp*
I didn't even know this existed!!!
Y'all, how will this love triangle work??
Chris wrote: "Yeah? I was packing some old books at the house and ran across this: Starfleet Academy Student Handbook"DUDE! Awesome.
Oh man, I saw someone mention Wheel of Time and for a brief moment I thought someone was proposing a Wheel of Time buddy read and I almost ran screaming. ;)
I will probably never re-read WoT. It's just too large a time investment for the return. I consider most series to be worth a first read, very few are worth a second though.
Ugh, GR is messing up so much for me today. Belated notifications, no notifications at all, and parts of the pages aren't working... It's getting annoying. Anyone else having issues?

Everything that you said.
Thank god it's not just me. Oh well, Mark Lawrence liked my review of Prince of Thorns and that's all that really matters about today lol.
I'm finding pages are taking a while to load.Luke, I agree that long series are a daunting thing to contemplate re-reading. However, if anyone EVER wanted to tackle the Miles Vorkosigan Saga, I'll happily re-read it with you!
(What would others re-read?)
I'm a Fanderson, so I'll always re-read anything by him.I'll probably do several aSoIaF re-reads, even though it's not my favorite thing ever. It's still the most influential fantasy series of this decade.
I'll do several Jim Butcher re-reads. I loved Codex Alera, and still re-read them, so I'm sure I'll do the same with the Dresden Files.
The Broken Empire will also definitely get a re-read.
It remains to be seen which other series leave enough of a mark on me to warrant a re-read.
However, if anyone EVER wanted to tackle the Miles Vorkosigan Saga, I'..."I have it on my TBR... I'll let you know in like 2 years after I get through the books I own that are on that list lol.
Every time you say that about Codex Alera, Luke, it makes me think I was just reading the books wrong. They just seemed so formulaic to me and spurred on two major reading slumps last year. I ended up DNFing the 2nd one halfway through. Maybe I just need to give them another shot.
I will definitely say that the latter part of the series is where it really shines. But I was also a boy with not many options for reading material (or too many, depending on how you look at it), so when I found Butcher to be fairly easy to read, I kept at it, and eventually fell in love with the series. It would probably be fair to equate my experiences with it to others' experiences with Harry Potter.
Emily wrote: "Oh man, I saw someone mention Wheel of Time and for a brief moment I thought someone was proposing a Wheel of Time buddy read and I almost ran screaming. ;)"I need to reread/finish WoT *and* I would feel like running. Honestly - the thought of reading the first 5 books again... I don't think I can do it. I'm seriously thinking of Wikipedia-ing it and just reading the last few books.
Winter's Heart (#8 I think it is) is the one that did me in. I just. could. not. make it through it in one go (and I'm a very persistent reader). I took a 3 month break from the series because of that one. I think I'd cry if I had to read it again.
I liked Winter's Heart, but it was #9. True though that #8 was a slog, as was #10.Knife of Dreams really picked things back up though, then Sanderson came in and finished it well.
True. The end really got exciting and fast paced. It's definitely worth that first read, I just don't think I could make it through those middle ones again.
Nyssa wrote: "I finally finished Earth Abides this morning, and I will be continuing Howl's Moving Castle this evening. If I'm lucky, I will finish that sooner than later, and then read..."
I finished Howl's Moving Castle on Monday, but changed my mind about starting The Sign of Four; I'm not really in the mood for it at the moment.
I haven't really been able to read much in the last two days, so I'm not sure if I will be finishing another book by Friday, the end of the month.
Now I'm torn between The Unusual Suspects and Polaris 10 Short Stories. I'm leaning towards the latter.

LOL.
Awesomeness Becky - love those reactions! Think mine went along the same line.
I really liked the Codex Alera as well. My first (and only, so far) experience of Jim Butcher's writing. Occasionally I consider a Dresden book, but I much prefer fantasy that isn't set in this world.Emily, I wouldn't worry about it. People like and dislike different books, and if it's not your cup of tea you needn't force yourself to drink it. I used to force myself to finish books (yes, Dracula, I'm looking at you) but there are tons of great books and not enough time to read all of them. So if it's a DNF, try something else (you're not an F1 fan, by any chance?).

THis is the second series that came out after his deal.
But all of them have really similar names so I just spent about 5 mins tracking down if it was the new one or not.
