Heh. I was talking yesterday about needing to lower my committment TBR and I'm being pushed into a 1000 page tome. While I'm working on Malazan.
And the same day I won a First Reads that I'll need to review.
Cool. I'm in. When we reading TWOK?
Lol, it may be 1,000 pages, but who cares? So it takes longer to read it. Cut it in half and consider it two books in a series :PBut in all honesty, if you do want to read it.. I'm going to finish Howl, and then read Mr. Shivers... So I'll probably be starting it late next week.
If it's as good as y'all say, it won't seem overwhelmingly big. I might even read it faster than I do some shorter but less interesting ones.I'm sure tempted.
Well, if I just look at last year,I read Great North Road & A Memory of Light, both at over 900 pages. They didn't seem overwhelming at all.
Not to mention, I re-read (audio) the entire ASOIAF series. None of these dragged near as much as some of the 200-300 page books I read.

^and me...
Dawn's looking at late next week. Nienna's already started. We could split the difference. Start Monday, the 17th?
And....since Stormlight is part of Sanderson's overarching Cosmere series, I'm not going to have to spend a credit. HeheI've already read all the Mistborn books, Warbreaker, and Elantris.
I haven't exactly "started" yet. I only read the prologue so I can put TWoK on hold until next week. :)
That's up to you, Nienna. I know you read faster than most of us. But it's a big book. We'll all be on it toegether just in different parts...
It's gonna take me 2-3 weeks to read it, just saying. I never have time to read on the weekends anymore.. Wedding planning is a huge time suck!
The Way of Kings? I´m in! I already ordered it from my local bookstore but it hasn´t arrived yet, supposedly it´ll get here sometime this week.

Heh. Don't look at me. I'm a virgin. Somebody else needs to drive this car.

You can ride in the backseat with me. We'll let Paolo drive.

I buckled on Mistborn, I'm not committing to both.
I was just reading over this thread...I think we may either need to stop using abbreviations or possibly add a "key" for the uninitiated who arrive at the thread.ASOIF- A Song of Ice and Fire
TWOK- The Way of Kings
TWT (TWoT)- The Wheel of Time
LotR- Lord of the Rings
TCoTC-The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant (alternately the Chronicles of "Total Crap")
TRR-The Riyra Revelations
KkC-The Kingkill Chronicles
I'm sure there are others.

I thought at first it was going to be too similar to Graceling in terms of the main character's story arch, but it wasn't. I really liked some of the characters, particularly Brigan.

ROTFLMAO!
I think I just scared someone outside! lol!
Chris wrote: "LOL! I like the Thomas Covenant one."Ditto. lol
All,
Am passing on the re-read for TWoK, I am hoping my memory will serve... (although I do plan on reading the very ending again, there was something important there). But if anyone wants to buddy read Radiance, let me know!
MrsJoseph,
I can't seem to finish Steelheart either. It was good, but I stopped, and just don't have the desire to pick it back up. I will... sometime, hopefully.
I finished A Time of Miracles. It was definitely *not* what I was expecting. The earth's spin has decreased and continues to decrease making the day and night cycles longer and longer. It isn't a sci-fi book though. The events are told thru the eyes of a twelve year old girl. It was good. But haunting. Very haunting. Like in a I feel like I will never be happy again way... I tend to avoid apocalyptic stories. I'm not sure what to read next but, I need something happy damnit!
And I started my reread of A Clash of Kings (instead of The Way of the King which I will read next week with the buddy read).
Kara, tor.com did a TWOK re-read: http://www.tor.com/features/series/th...If you'd like to review it for discussions....

I'm so glad it's not just me. :) I was starting to feel weird.
I'm so behind in my reading this month it's painful! I have to laugh at myself when I see how optimistic and ambitious I was just two weeks ago.I'm slooooowly crawling my way through Earth Abides ( omg I almost used Alan's title - A Dude Abides!).
Don't feel bad, Nyssa. I'm in the same boat. I am WAYYY behind on my January reading, which has bled into my February reading, and I keep eyeing non-group read books and being tempted by them because it's starting to feel like work. :( Maybe it's just Earth Abides that is making it that way. That book's fantastic reactions from everyone are hanging over my head like a black cloud of dread. But then I feel bad when I think that I'll just skip it because Emily is so looking forward to my shred review. LOL

As to your forthcoming (we hope) response to Earth Abides: I don't blame Emily! Your shred reviews are epic! I'll be sitting right beside her sharing the popcorn. :)
