I'm 18 chapters in

The problem I'm having is (view spoiler)[ it's not realistic! I mean a sea of snow 8 to 10 feet high?? Really? I live in the mid-west and we get snow dumped on us, but of course not like the east coast. And I have never experienced a nor'easter, but this just seems SO far fetched!

And there is hardly anything going on! I keep expecting Elijah or Les to turn on them or something. But I have to say that I like the way Scotty is narrating the story, the way he is talking directly to the reader. I think I like those kind best because is more personable. The only thing with that is Scotty is a teenage boy and I don't much appreciate the crude talk (I mean really? I SO did not need to know about Pete's BM issues!) and the gawking of the girls.

But other than that I like how the writer made them all life like? Like how kids would really respond in a situaion like that. (hide spoiler)]

I liked it ok (view spoiler)[ I was very said about Pete! But I wasn't attached to any other characters. And the ending kind of made me mad! I hate when they just cut it off like that! I mean what happened with the rest of the kids? What happened with Gossell? What happened with their parents?? So many questions left unanswered! (hide spoiler)]

And yeah (view spoiler)[ it was kind of boring. I thought the same as you guys, that Les or Elijah would flip out or something and go on a killing spree. Or just...something!! I don't know. (hide spoiler)]

Thanks everyone, I'm better. Finished it this morning but I haven't had the time to talk about it until now. At 2am. I'm tired. :) And feeling a little awkward because I really liked it.

(view spoiler)[I knew it was a flare so I wasn't surprised when Les said it, more so that he was the only one who knew right away. It's hard for me to picture Gossel not knowing either too, so maybe he just didn't tell the kids when he left?

I like how the story was written from Scotty's pov. I like how the way he said things was very simple and not overly dramatic? Very "This is what happened and that's it." like.

I never really thought that Les or Elijah would turn on them or anything like that. They seemed normal to me, just teenagers on the edge of the social spectrum. Scotty's view of them didn't help, but thoughts like that are pretty typical in teens unfortunately.

It wasn't repetitive to me. I mean If I was stuck I'd be doing the same things everyday too. It made it more realistic to me.

I was sad when Pete died too. Especially because of how he was feeling before he left and why he did it. I'm surprised no one, especially Scotty, didn't realize why Jason didn't want him to go. I honestly expected more kids to die with how the summary was though. And it wasn't really suspenseful but I still wanted to find out what happened next

I was like "What?!" with the ending too. I wanted to find out about the other kids, and their parents, and the reactions to Pete's death from them. My home, the volunteer state Tennessee, was mentioned though so yay! Lol

Speaking of which I barely get snow here, ice yes, but almost no snow. So that probably helped me with the high volume and accumulation of it. (hide spoiler)]

Les and Elijah (view spoiler)[ I didn't think it was Scotty's thoughts of them that was making me think of them as bad. It was more the synopsis of the book that made the story seem more suspenseful and it was just me looking for "more" into the plot than there really was. I'm always doing that, so that was all me! lol! (hide spoiler)]

Pete (view spoiler)[ Yes! I wanted to know they're reaction too! I didn't think that everyone should have been as mad at him like they did when he went after Les! Because come on! It's Les! He'a mean guy so how was he supposed to know that he wouldn't try something with one of the girls? And! Being cooped up like they were was just asking for misunderstandings and confusion! The ending (view spoiler)[ Yeah, I was kind of mad at the ending! I don't want to make up my own ending! I want the author to tell me what happened!!! That's the author's job! It's his story! It just frustrates me to no end! *sigh* :\ (hide spoiler)]

I love when a story mentions where I'm from or have lived before! It's so cool to say "I have been there and done that!!" lol! :D

Les and Elijah (view spoiler)[Exactly. The synopsis totally made me think that there would be some sort of 'shocker' or giant trials throughout it. Scotty's thought's definitely played up on that with them. (hide spoiler)]

Pete (view spoiler)[Ikr. I disagree with you on them being mad at him though. Being a mean guy doesn't make Les a bad guy and molestation is a big accusation. And Scotty even acknowledged that Les wasn't how he thought he was in the beginning. Pete just ran off and started a problem with Les which could have blown up into a big problem for everyone else. I understand why Pete did it though. And yeah, being snowed in for days with worsening conditions was a promise for someone to fly off the handle. (hide spoiler)]

The ending (view spoiler)[ It definitely makes you want to bang your head on something sometimes. I actually just thought about it, but it would have been nice to see all the kids post the snow-in, not just how they reacted to Pete's death. Like how did they react to being free or how did they react to each other afterwards at school when it re-opened. Did they all become friends, or did they all avoid each other, Scotty and Jason included. Or even just showing some of them sixty years later in the back of a café talking about the worst nor'easter ever like Scotty mentioned the workshop teacher doing at the start would have been nice. Cheyenne, don't feel awkward. We are GLAD when someone likes a book a lot even if we didn't. We all have different taste in books and differences in opinions are bound to happen. One book I gave 5 stars to someone else gave a 1 and my mouth literally flew open because I couldn't believe she gave it a 1. LOL So don't worry. I'm very glad you enjoyed it!!

Cheyenne, we still use spoilers because many times others will come and skim a thread about a book they haven't read. At least that's why I usually use a spoiler throughout even if I'm done.
