I believe the cover has a purple eye on it, peeking through a hole in the middle of a maze.
It starts with an orphan girl who has a really smart guy friend who helps her get through life b/c she is illiterate. The society, though, has people take a test after a certain age to determine your intelligence level and your future. After the test, a roman numeral is put on the back of your neck and the person is limited to a set of jobs. VII is the highest and for royalty and I is the lowest. The girl is not allowed enough time to go through the test, so she ends up with a III, meanwhile her guy friend gets a VI. She steals something, but is caught and tries to run away to escape society's cruelties. She lands where one of her friends work, selling her body. The bid on the protagonist was very high, and it turns out because it is from the president- and he offers her a deal. A VII, but with cooperation. The next thing she knows, she is rushed out the door, her friend is shot, and she is forced unconscious.
When the girl wakes up, her body was surgically redone to imitate the princess's, who has turned up dead. She was chosen in particular because of her eyes- the one thing that surgeons cannot imitate, but has to learn all the manners of royalty. I don't remember much from here, but she finds a new guyfriend(royalty) in the castle and there is a lot of family drama from mom to grandmother(?). Her royal "cousin" is oblivious to everything around him and is the grandmother's favorite. The princess was a leader of rebellion against the gov., so she has to take that position as a leader, while slowly letting the anger fade.
SPOILERS: At one point, she is obligated to go hunting with her royalty guy friend's dad. The hunting is actually hunting humans for sport, humans who defy the gov.. The person shot was her orphan home's person who ran the place and was there due to the object she stole in the beginning. She does a speech, but throws away her script in her act of rebellion and also later realizes that the princess is very much alive- but in hiding. Her smart guy friend who got a VI is hired under her royalty guy friend as a secretary for the girl to feel better. The royal grandmother figures out that the previous princess is alive and somehow come out of hiding. More drama that I don't remember leads to the end scenario where the grandmother has the two of them, one in each hand, and the mother of the princess has to tell which one is the real and the fake, b/c the one not chosen will die. The mother chooses wrong- but I don't recall what happens next.
