Rosemary is portrayed as the inveterate aristocratic "lady" actress and she holds massive appeal and acceptance as a TV star playing those period piece roles. In my opinion, her personal character is her much rehearsed "Lady", who lies about her age, has had quite a lot of "work" done, and appears to be shallow for fear of succumbing to reality. Her true self is reflected in her slovenly housekeeping habits. The state of her home, which few people ever see, is a mess--similar to Rosemary herself. She is a mess unless she is attached to man and creating the "perfect" illusion of diaphanous spontenaety. The older she gets, the fewer roles she gets, and her confidence wains. It becomes more difficult to put on the "costume" of the lady. That illusion of confidence on the outside disintegrates, and the total wreck on the inside gets more difficult to disguise. (In a way, this happens to all of the characters.) What do you think?

Lady Rosemary Radley, who gives Fred (who has left his wife) consolation and entree into London high life. Rosemary has never managed to have a really successful love relationship--though she is not resigned to this.
