These books are kind of long, let's see how everyone gets on with this one to see if we should read two books a month or 1.

Please be mindful of spoilers :)

These are extremely long books! I got my copy from my brother and it takes him like a month and half to read each one lol

Lol. I'm on hold for the ebook at the library. if for some reason this series is too much I will add the second place series :)

I am 5th or 6th in line at the library for this one. Hopefully I will get it soon!

And I'm thinking one book a month is good.....maybe with a book this long we should have a schedule. A specific amount of chapters to read each week? Just a suggestion.....

We could have limit, maybe? So we don't get spoilers if people read ahead and you can still pace yourself since its so long??

I am for that. Completely! How many chapters do you think? How long are the chapters?

Chapters run about twenty pages

So there's probably about 50 chapters in the book. Hmmm what about like 15 chapters a week?

I don't know if I could read that many per week because I'm still reading my classic (Sherlock Holmes) about 20 pages per day as well as my "fun" book.

Don't slow everyone else down because of me though. I'll still participate, I just might comment later than everybody else!

Totally, I think the chapters per week will just keep everyone aware of where people are and to not spoil anything...well, mostly not spoil anything.

I can probably do 10-15 a week. but I might try to get further. ebooks only loan for 14 days. lol. But I think I saw the first 5 on kindle pretty cheap...

Maybe a different thread for each chapter section? Like one thread for chapters 1-10, another for chapters 11-20, etc.....

I'm at 190, Eddard's chapter. It is quite the complicated book. Lots of characters and things going on.

Still waiting to get my hands on this one. I'm now number two on the hold list at the library.

I just got notification that The Fault in Our Stars was finally available for me! LOL

So I finished this over the weekend....anybody get past the prologue yet lol?

No...I might have to get the audiobook? I just can't get into it :( I had such hopes and was so looking forward to it..but I just can't, I keep getting too confused

Perhaps we should switch series for next month? I don't think a lot of people got into this one...

I am up for that...or even adding a second series in case people want to read something else...The Shopaholic series had come in second. I will send a message out.

I have it, but I haven't even started it yet. I have been in sort of a reading slump lately! Ugh!

I have been listening to a lot of audibooks! lol. Helps at work...I really need to make my way through books I have hear so I dont have to ship them to Scotland ahead of me, or lug them across the country to go across the ocean...to go across the UK lol. Too much...way too much. And i bought 4 books this weekend :( But Books A Million had a sale! And majority of them were 3.97 and less :( I couldnt say no.

My very first read along, and by chance I discovered that you were working your way through The Game Of Thrones. it has been on my To Read list for a while, but finally took the plunge on Monday. It did take me a little while to get into the book, but now that I am about half way through the first book, I love it. I have never watched the TV series, but I do believe I am hooked now.

The tv show is awesome! I think the intimidating part of this series is the books are so long and they have so many story lines going on that it can be tricky to keep track of everybody.

I think we are going to continue the series next month too for anyone that's interested in discussing it! I'm a huge fan of Catelyn(sp?) Stark myself, who was your favorite??

I agree! I think Arya is going to be key to everything in this series.

I'm reading A Clash of Kings right now, I don't want to give too much away, but I can say that Arya is even more awesome!

Have just finished the first book and all I can say at this moment is WOW. My favourite characters are Daenerys and Arya. Both strong willed women, who may choose the "unpopular" option, but make their choices based on what is right for them at a particular time, not what others deem as appropriate.

I don't know why, but also have a bit of a soft spot for Tyrion and Jon. I thing it is because they are the black sheep of their families and the way they are castigated by certain members that makes me root for them. It is also interesting how both deal with their situations in life, Tyrion with his tongue in cheek attitude and Jon trying as hard as he does to bring respect to his family.

Can't wait to start the next book.

I think I might be the only person that finds Jon Snow extremely whiny....His attitude is great, and he works hard but I find in writing his voice just bothers me for some reason. It's not necessarily a character issues for me it's a tone of voice.....if that makes any sense...

I HATE Jon Snow! His chapters are extremely bland, and he has no personality to his voice! Man, I loath him!

Btw, I have like, 30 pages left on a Clash of Kings, but I might take a break and read something else. Just thought I'd let you know!

I don't hate the character, he's got all this honor and he works hard and all that, but his voice kind of grates on my nerves lol

Just his voice is really bland, and that makes his chapters really boring, and I really want to enjoy the but I can't!

I agree, I wish he wasn't that boring because he seems like such a better person than most of these people lol

I'm reading the books in German, so the first 5 englisch books equal to 10 German translations, so I finished the first book and I am in the middle of what is book 1 for you! ^^ I hope you understand what I mean!

My fav characters are Jon and Eddard! They are great so far!

Eddard was a great character. Felt like he was the only one with honor in the whole realm....but he still had a bastard son!

I love these books! I've read the fifth a year ago and I can't wait to read the next one!

And it's amazing how GRRM makes you change your perception about some things and some characters. I liked characters that I don't like any more and now I love other characters that I didn't like or even hated them at first. And I won't go into detail because, you know, spoilers!

I am checking in to see if anyone is still reading along with this series. I read the first two books last summer and was thinking of joining in when anyone is about to the third book.

I guess that I'm in the middle of the second English book at the moment! In German you have 10 books, so it's quite difficult to compare them to the English edition! ^^

wow 10 books? They must shorten them or break them apart?

Actually they break them appart, that's why the first book doesn't have a real ending at all, same goes for the third! I guess they made 10 books out of them, as the German translation is always a bit longer than the original text!

Interesting....although maybe better, I find people are intimidated by the length of these so breaking them apart may not be a bad thing. They are definitely long
