65 % - (view spoiler)[That's not how I imagined Mal and Alina reconnecting. But at this part of the story, it kinda makes sense. They'll get around that sooner or later.

For the rest of the story, I still think there could happen more and even though Alina doesn't trust him, I think the Apparat knows more than he's telling and I think he wants to help.

The first kiss between Alina and the Darkling surprised me, it came out of nowhere and I have a feeling he's manipulating Alina to trust him. (hide spoiler)]

I wonder if what Botkin said about Alina is true. If she is always tired and doesn’t eat because she is suppressing her powers. I thought it was kind of a cool/interesting thought. Why would she unconsciously suppress her powers ever since she was a kid?

Genya is my absolute favorite so far. She’s got spunk even though everyone looks down on her.

I can’t believe that the Darkling being an actual human being was all just an act. It was so convincing. But now we see that he truly is heartless.

Mal redeemed himself. I’m glad that he finally knows his true feelings for Alina. But I don’t think that she should just hop from Darkling to Mal. It doesn’t seem fair to Mal.

Yay, Mal was saved! He’s grown on me since the beginning of the book. But he still had a little ways to go. I wonder if he is somehow Grisha too, cause his tracking skills seem a little too good.

Genya was disappointing. In the end she was just playing Alina and agreed with the Darkling.

I really like the worldbuilding. There's enough information to interest me but there's still loads of mystery.
I also like the friendship between Alina and Mal and feel like it will continue to develop throughout the book. The backstory at the beginning was a good start and I think I'm gonna enjoy this read! :)

I agree with the worldbuilding. I love it when it has its own words for things, like the keftas. It makes it feel more authentic.

More information about the world is coming to light now and I like that the reader learns alongside Alina through the book.
The way Alina can't just do everything straight away adds to the book, I think it makes it so much more realistic. When characters are perfect from the beginning, it really annoys me for some reason!

(view spoiler)[ Wow, that twist is so good. I read this book over two years ago but never continued the series, so I remembered there was a twist, but I couldn't really remember what happened. I'm glad I forgot because I really enjoyed learning about the Darkling all over again! The fact that Bahgra was his mother was so clever.
Now I'm just wondering what Alina can do because it's gonna be a struggle to hide from someone like that. (hide spoiler)]

I kinda guessed Bahra was his mother, but about his true nature and the story of the Shadow Fold… never! I’m eager to learn how Mal and Alina (btw I’m happy they are together and friends (or more?) again) are going to confront such a powerful, smart person. (hide spoiler)]

Great ending made me want to read the next book straight away (but I can’t do it now, so resisted the urge). I loved everything, the way Alina got her powers back, the way she saved Mal and left Darkling in his own darkness to die.
