I just finished and oh my goodness! I was bored for a couple chapters there, after (view spoiler)[ Alina ran away from the palace.. You could tell which relationship was gonna last in that time and it still didn't sit well with me. (hide spoiler)] It finally picked up again in the last two chapters with some plot twists that I didn't see coming at ALL.. I'm giving it 4 stars and would like to read the second one at a later time.

Just started this - I'm quite intrigued, but then again, when you've only read the first 10 pages, it's hard to really say much about it. The intro to the two main characters was really neat. I'm a little confused as to what a Grisha is, but I'm fairly certain I will learn that soon :)

So I'm pretty terrible...I read the first 17 pages last Sunday and then I had a very stressful week (my dad had surgery, thought he was going home but ended up staying in for an extra week due to complications), so I am just now getting to Chapter 2!!!!!
But I think I will like this book.

Also, the Darkling showed some serious depth of character in his short pieces of the story so far - serious & hard, but also caring & seemingly compassionate! (hide spoiler)]

If Mal hadn't been in danger at the end, I really do think she would have done whatever the Darkling wanted. And I feel like the Darkling needed more depth. So far, he's just the bad guy. I wanted there to be more to him, something besides just power to drive him, even if it's to do bad things. (hide spoiler)]
