SamJ ★Needs a HEA★ | 155 comments I really only remember the story of this, read it about 10 years ago at least, and I bought from charity shops a lot then, so cant say if it was new then.

There is a girl, who thinks she is in love with a stable hand, but she is to wed a Lord, possibly called the devil as it is rumoured he killed his first wife.

I think the stable hand attacks her when she wont sleep with him before the wedding.

Anyway, she married the lord, and is terrified of him, has nightmares where he appears as the devil.

Her husband has a daughter and she starts to love the girl.

She starts to get on with her husband, but then something happens and she thinks he is trying to murder her so runs away.

The husband loves her and tries to win her back, but she is too scared.

I think near the end, the daughter runs away or is kidnapped and they end up back together.

Serendi Maybe Devil of the Highlands by Lynsay Sands? (The description sounds like something I'd seen searched before, and this is the closest I've found.)

Any chance you're thinking of Tainted By Temptation by Katy Madison (2011)?

There are some similarities: set in England, husband rumored to have killed his wife by pushing her off a cliff, she's a governess to his nine year old daughter Iris, demon is mentioned. Apparently it has a gothic feel.

Thanks but that is not it. (also this book is older,I had it on paperback and at least 7 or so years ago) She is nobility herself and her father is a Lord or some such - it is an arranged marriage between them, and she does not want the marriage.

Also, I just remember her running back to her father, after she had been married a few months and started to fall in love with her husband, as she was scared for some reason he was trying to hurt her, and her husband turned up there to try and get her back as he loved her, but she refused to go home with him.

And then i am pretty sure her stepdaughter goes missing somehow, and she goes searching for her. (although I really hope I am not mixing up two book there)

But, she definitely, thought she was in love with a stable hand who turned out to be a bit of a cad, and had a nightmare where her husband appeared as the devil, and she was terrified of him, until she started to fall in love with him.

Also the daughter possibly does not speak for some reason iirc

Midniteillusion | 103 comments Try Once Upon a Tower, I'm not sure it's the one I was thinking of but it fits. I'll keep looking.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that is not it, they are both English, I am pretty certain.

I actually do not remember any of it taking part in London or at balls etc. It was all in the country iirc.

SamJ ★Needs a HEA★ | 155 comments Possibly may have found it. I am almost certain it is Scandals by Penelope Neri

I have ordered a paperback copy from Amazon, so shall know soon enough for sure.

SamJ ★Needs a HEA★ | 155 comments Solved, it is the book in previous post.
