Finished Chapter 20 I'm such a slow reader!!(view spoiler)[ This chapter is so intense. I nearly cried. I love this book so much already! Knowing that the meaning of "release" is death, I nearly fainted at that part (lol so over acting). I read The Giver a few years ago and read the last book in the quartet "Son" earlier this year. Has anyone else read the other books in the series?

No Rosemary was the girl who the community chose to be The Receiver of Memories but she couldn't handle it so she asked to be released.. We later found out she was the Giver's daughter

I didn't even know this was going to be made into a movie until after I read it and then I found out Taylor Swift is gonna be in it. Don't get me wrong I love Taylor and all but she's not a great actress.. Does anyone know which roll she is gonna play? Is she Rosemary? Or Fiona?

Thank you. I really need to read the book again because I don't remember Rosemary as the protagonist nor the reveal that she is The Giver's daughter. Perhaps not the best book to Buddy Read!!! ;)

Liking it so far too! And I agree with you I can feel it's a children book but not in a childish way. One thing for sure for me. Jonas world (community) is really frightening!

I read the synopsis and it said that their community is a utopia, and then when I read the book, it isn't much! So I agree, it is frightening even though they have no crimes or illness... so far. :)

For me it is a utopia, Mei. Well at least from other characters perspective, aside Jonas and The Giver because they are the only one who know the truth about their world.

What do you think of their rules? (view spoiler)[Aren't they so scary? I mean I personally think it's so scary, even more than when I read The Hunger Games. I could see what you mean now, Rachmi. About the book being utopia. I'm in Chapter 13 (view spoiler)[and I didn't know that the colors were abolished, that some animals didn't exist for them. I mean, they could NOT see it, but they have a bit of knowledge, that kind of thing. But they really have no idea.

And about the choices, it was a simple example, but The Giver and Jonas said it is not safe if people make wrong ones. That's a really avoidant of danger way to put it. It's like mistakes are not to be accepted! It's sickening. (hide spoiler)]

I also notice how the other people treat Jonas after his Assignment. (view spoiler)[Fiona, Asher and Lily, didn't react, didn't even say anything, when Jonas tells vague descriptions of his training or the things he knew. Were they instructed to just let him tell them, and not react differently? I mean, surely anyone can get curious but there wasn't any trace of that in them. Also, Jonas was trying very hard to make people glimpse what he has seen, and they get hurt. Is it really possible for him to do that or transmit that? He is the Receiver of Memory after all, why would he be chosen when anyone can receive it anyway? Do Lily and the others actually see what he means or Jonas just thinks so? (hide spoiler)]
