I'm starting this today! I know it's early, but I can't wait...for two reasons, but I'm not sure either of them are good: (1) I love finishing a series and (2) I'm ready to be done with this... I didn't like either Gathering Blue or Messenger as much as The Giver. :( I am excited and hopeful for this book, however, as I think it follows a character from the first novel, which was my favorite of the worlds so far, even if was evil in many ways.

Just finished Part 1.

I am falling more and more in love with Claire. I'm enjoying Lois Lowry's portrayal of her character's slow grow of emotions and I can only imagine what that must be like....to be an adult (at least in that community) and have your first experience of emotions be brought on by that particular experience. It breaks my heart and makes me root for her. I hope this ends well for Claire.

Just finished Part 2

(view spoiler)[ It was so lovely to watch Claire grow stronger, physically, mentally, and emotionally. This is not the same person from Part I, from the home of The Giver. I also really appreciate that these changes, this growth in character, didn't happen overnight, but took years. That's really, ya know? That's how change happens.

I can't wait for her to find her son and I so hope it is a joyful reunion with lots of time to spend together! :)

My hate for the trademaster is growing. She worked so hard! And he took so much away! It's horrible. :( (hide spoiler)]

Finished this last night.

I must say, I didn't like books two or three, but reading book four helped me like them more. Does that make sense? I guess I needed it all to be tied back together for it to be enjoyable for me. I didn't appreciate what felt like random stories after I had already fallen for the characters from the first novel.

Also, is it just a Lois Lowry thing to leave the ending completely up to the reader? Because....ugh....I don't like it! I just don't. Grrrr. Ever have a book just leave you saying "grrr"?

Through chapter 4.. I think I remember that these books don't necessarily string together like a normal series. It's basically just different stories from the same world. I'm fine with that because it means we don't have to remember many details from the last books but I'm always looking for the link or character that ties them together

It was heartbreaking when she got her remembers back about her son. It must be so difficult to deal with all those emotions again. I thought that this part was really dragged out. I was satisfied with the ending and I thought that the author did a good job of bringing all the stories together. (hide spoiler)]
