SOLVED. Man with spell on him who can never leave Manhattan helped by indians [s]

This book is similar to the movie coming out named Winters Tales but the man I'm looking for had a spell cast on him where he did not age for centuries and could not die until he met Native Indians who helped him by hiding him in a cave in Manhattan and giving him herbal medicines.

I think it was published in the mid 80's and I would love to read it again. Thank you.

Since you said it was similar to the movie, did you check to make sure it wasn't the book the movie is based on by Mark Helprin?

Thanks Debbie! I searched the internet for information on the author but to no avail. I'd like to give you my sincere thanks for giving me this information as after reading some reviews for the book on my Kindle, I do believe it's one in the same and I'll say no more about the one review because I don't want to spoil anything.
