Tessa So I read this. I was, shall we say, less than impressed and I wrote it off as a 'not-for-me.' Now that a few years have clouded my memory I'm wondering if I should try again, especially since so many people that I have similar taste with really like it.

So my question is, does the series improve after the first one or is it more of the same?

Kristen I read the first two and got bored with the third. I stopped after chapter 3, intending to continue just to get the thing read, and never picked it back up again.
It's unusual that I won't finish a book. I've finished books I hated just to finish. This series was 'blah' to me, and I loved series like Harry Potter and Hunger Games. So if that's what you mean by 'similar tastes', it's not just you.

Breanna Joy If you got bored by this, you might try like the Kane Chronicles or the Heroes of Olympus series as a refresher to see if it was that particular book at that particular time, and if you like his other works better.

Mackenzie I read the whole series and I only really liked the second, fourth, and fifth books. If you have seen the second movie don't base the book off of that because the movie has a very different plot than the book. In the later books Percy starts to mature and begins to understand more of the world he lives in. He stops making as many stupid actions, though there still are a few, and he begins to grow into the role of being the son of Poseidon. So if you can make it through Percy's ignorance then I think you'll like it. If you want to read other myth based books I would recommend The Shadow Thieves which is a totally different approach to the Greek gods.
