I don't read graphic novels, but the fish/alien and the title bit sound similar to some characters out of Hellboy. Maybe that series is an offshoot? I hope this helps spark something. :)

Sounds like Fray to me.

The main character does have a twin brother who "dies", and her hair is blue with pink tips (though the cover does not look quite like the one you're describing, but she does carry the weapon you're remembering). The young girl she looks after is named Loo. She loves her midriff shirts.

Oh, and "lurks" are vampiric creatures.
