This is a team challenge that will require one book a week. The object of the game is to roll the dice (there will be a link to the website to roll) and move along the board. The first team to pass the finish line wins the game.

Captains will roll the dice by clicking here on Fridays once their team has completed their reads. Captains you will use two dice when rolling. You may not advance until all of the team's reviews are in. If a player or team falls behind the team has to wait until the next Friday to roll. That being said it's very important to finish and review your book on time.

How to pick a book:
If you land on single digit spot for example lets say you land on spot 5 then you have to read a book that's #5 in a series. For double digit numbers, for example you land on spot 48 you can read either a #4 or a #8 in a series. Stand alone books will count as a #1 or a #0. I don't expect anyone to read a series out of order and for people that don't really read series books that still want to play there will be an alternate option. The alternate option this round will be done a little different than last time. There will be an alternate option for each spot.

Sign ups are open now through February 3th. Teams will be formed on February 4th and the game will begin on Friday the 7th.

There will be a separate thread for captains to post their place on the board after rolling and a separate thread for captains to post a link to the teams completed reviews.
Teams will have a chance to earn 1 Free Pass to roll. To earn your free pass once your team has completed their reads a day before the next roll. Once your team has done this you will have 1 free pass. The free pass will allow a team to roll if they are missing one review before the cutoff.
Re-reads are allowed
Page limit is 150
When using an anthology you may use any of the numbers in the book except for the .5 since this means 1/2. But you must review each story in the anthology.
Series # will be based on how GR has it listed.
Any questions please feel free to ask!

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments The alternates:
Each number corresponds with the spot on the board.
For colors: The cover has to be at least 50%
For locations: As long as the book takes part at all in the given location .
For Shelves: Any book on the given shelf
For Publication Years: I'll be using how GR has it's publication date listed.
For Authors Names: The first, middle, or last name of the author is ok.
For Titles: Only the first word of the title. A, An, And, and The do not count.
So if the letter is B: The Best Day would be ok. Dear Betty would not be ok.

Sue Morris | 1095 comments Jenne, I have a question? Can a person play in both games?

message 4: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Hmm I guess you could if you can keep up and keep track of it. The days we'll roll are slightly different.

message 5: by Sue (new)

Sue Morris | 1095 comments Jenne I read a book a day....lol (love audio, I can listen while doing regular work) :)

message 6: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Alright grasshopper if you'd like to do both knock yourself out :)

message 7: by Sue (new)

Sue Morris | 1095 comments Thank you....This challenge really helps with series challenges...:)

message 8: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 509 comments Does this start on Friday the 7th or Sunday the 9th? Right now, it says Sunday the 7th. :)

message 9: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments The 7th for SS, I knew copying and pasting was gonna get me somewhere on here.....

message 10: by Dalene (last edited Jan 27, 2014 10:06AM) (new)

Dalene (dalenekrodman) the 150 page limit, is that minimum or maximum?

message 11: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments minimum.

message 12: by Dalene (new)

Dalene (dalenekrodman) thank you, I was hoping that is what it was.

message 13: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 3778 comments Can we swap between series and stand-alone books? Or do we have to choose just one?

message 14: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments You can use a series book or use the alternate on any roll, no limit on either. Just remember when using a standalone if it doesn't qualify for the alternate you can only use it when you're on a spot that has a 1 or 0.

message 15: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 880 comments just a question...are we doing the regular game (like the original scrabble)?

message 16: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Not sure I understand your question?

message 17: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 880 comments we had a game that was a challenge to find specific words in our books..for example..word of week: spot...so we had to find books with title or author name using these lettres...then there was a bonus word which had to be somewhere in the book :)

message 18: by Christina (new)

Christina (christinaovallsbooks) | 237 comments Why are there 2 dice? Is this so we know what our category is for the next week? I'm just trying to figure out how easy it's going to be to get books that fit the categories. Most of them seem to be generic enough to fit quite a few books.

message 19: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 880 comments maybe I did this one in another group!!!!! lol :)

message 20: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Catherine that was WWGRF, in having a blonde moment. This game is totally different from it though.

message 21: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Christina its two dice per roll. So to kind of figure out your possible spots and alternates just know that it could be between 2 and 12 spots from your current spot. Most of the alternates are pretty broad. The locations can be the trickiest. There's a website though that helps for that. I think it's www.bookssetin.com

That website is extremely helpful. It's what I use for these challenges, :)

message 23: by Christina (new)

Christina (christinaovallsbooks) | 237 comments Love the website! Thanks! For the shelf labeled audio, I don't have to listen to the audiobook, but just pick a book that was on that shelf, correct?

message 24: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Right!

message 25: by JoAnne (new)

JoAnne (joannemwct) | 2511 comments Good questions! Like that this is one book per week this time around.

The two dice will get us through faster. Last time we only used one die. Rolling a 12, for example, only matters to advance us on the game board. It's what we land on that counts for the book # in a series to read (except the first roll of course)

message 26: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 1 comments A few questions...

If I understand correctly, #1 in series are not allowed at all? (as #1 and 0 count for standalones?)

If my team falls in spot #12...can I read a book that's 12 in the series (I just happen to have a couple :)

For publication year, are we talking about original publication year or can we also use the publication year for the edition that we are reading?

#1 in a series is allowed if you land on a 1, 11, 21, etc. You can also use 0 or 1 to read a stand alone.

If you land on 12 you can read book 1, 2 or 12 in a series or a standalone book for the 1 - Goodreads must show that it's a series and that number book in the series.

Goodreads also determines the publication year, etc.

message 28: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 1 comments Thanks, Joanne. That's helpful. :)

I understand that GR determines pub year...my question though is if we are going with original publication year (no matter the publication of that edition) or can we also use the publication year of the edition. To show you an example...

Until Proven Guilty (J.P. Beaumont, #1) by J.A. Jance - This book was first published in 1985 but this particular edition was published in 2009. Can we only use the first year? (In this case, we couldn't use it at all because 1985 is not one of the alternate years.) Or can we also use the publication date of that particular edition? (Which means I could use this book if my team happen to fall on spot #46.)

message 29: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments DG I'd take that book as 2009 since it says it on there. When using one like that though make sure to use the right edition when posting your review.

Great, Jenne. Thanks! That definitely gives more options. :)

D.G. | 1 comments Hi Jenne - I don't know if you meant for this to happen but the color white is in the list twice (#9 and #75.)

message 32: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Lol, yeah I used all of the basic colors and didn't want to get into shades, or funky colors so I just reused it since there's no guarantee a team would land on it twice.

Oh yes, I just noticed that you used several colors twice. :)

message 34: by JoAnne (new)

JoAnne (joannemwct) | 2511 comments Until the last comment I didn't realize that the alternates were preassigned already.

message 35: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 1 comments I can't wait for this game to get started! I have two series books I want to get started but I'm saving them because they are high numbers! Sigh...

message 36: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Jenne, what time on Fri. will the first roll happen?

message 37: by Jenne (new)

Jennifer H Thanks!

message 39: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) Jenne, Team 1 will be called

■ The One's to Beat! ■

and I will be the captain.

message 40: by Jojobean (new)

Jojobean | 220 comments Just to be clear we can read standalones right? They would count for # 1 and 0 in a "series"

Also for the alternate options for each space, does the book we read have to be part of a series or it doesn't matter?

message 41: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments That's right and alternates can be a standalone or part of a series so long as they fit the given alternate.

message 42: by Jennifer C. (new)

Jennifer C. | 1722 comments Jenne~
