Edition - Adapted from

Is a book that is "adapted from" by same author an edition of the original book, or altogether separate?

I'm thinking the adapted from is separate...

It's described as "irresistible on its own or as a compelling companion to Killing Lincoln", so I would assume it's a separate book.
