Like all members of this site, I enjoy good writing, and J. Carter Swift, in his book "Stories of The Boy with the Yellow Socks," doesn't disappoint. His short story collection tells of a boy, Jan Blixen, growing up gay in Iowa, but the book is so much more. It's a 'coming of age' tale for both gay and straight. I highly recommend it as a gift to homophobes, because there's no way you can read these stories and not like, admire, and even love Jan. I could keep blowing the trumpet about this wonderful work, but I'd rather everyone go to amazon and read the first two short stories amazon provides as a 'peek' into the book. I loved the first story, The Baseball Glove, and it's only five pages... http://www.amazon.com/Stories-The-Boy...
