Altered Buddy Read

Jen and I are going to be buddy reading the sequel to Crewel starting on Tuesday, Jan 28th!

This buddy read is open to everyone who would like to join in!! There are no set chapters per day, we just read at our own paces and start each post with how far along you are, i.e., Chapter #, %, using spoilers where needed. Have fun!

Okay, I'm at 37%. I'm exhausted tonight, but so far my thoughts are--this is craziness! I don't trust anyone at all at the moment! I am loving the world building in this one, just like in Crewel! I'd easily say the world building and concept is the best part of this series!

I'm at about 20% of Crewel. Hahhaah..!! I may be a bit late on this one. But that's not abnormal for me. ;-D

I was on a plane all day today, mostly reading the end of Crewel. I'm starting Altered tonight - it's nice because the end of Crewel is fresh in my mind.

I'm listening, and it's good - but I'm not finding nearly as much time to read as usual. Maybe it's because I'm on vacation (lol!). I'm only about 10% in, if that. But so far it's interesting.

OK, so far this is pretty fascinating! (view spoiler)[Zombie people without souls? Adelice's mother is one? And that banter between Erik and Jost is priceless! Pretty crazy stuff going on. (hide spoiler)]

I just finished. This book is brilliant, absolutely brilliant. Politics, heartbreak, believable characters, a love triangle that actually works and is solved in one installment, incredible ending, suspense, intrigue, great villains, great narrator on audio.

And beyond all that, the alternate universe was intelligent and complicated. It took some work to imagine, but wasn't such that my brain hurt trying to just get it.

This has the emotional feel of the Legend trilogy by Marie Lu. Not sure why - maybe it's the realistic feel of the relationships. Friends, enemies, betrayals, striving for the good - I can't even tell you why because the two series are so vastly different. They just have that same vibe, you know?

It's going to kill me to have to wait for the last book. But it will be wonderful to marathon them when it does!

I am hoping to finish this today! I seriously have not been reading much this week, been super busy!!

So I just finished this one. (view spoiler)[Albert Einstein!?? That blew my mind!! (hide spoiler)] I finally feel like I was starting to understand the trippy physics of the alternate universe. I also read the short story The Cypress Project which helped.

I didn't understand the physics of this throughout the book like you did, Jen, so it was a struggle for me and gave me headaches! But I finally had my aha moment and glad I hung in there!

Bring on the 3rd book!! I want to see where this is going.

I finally finished it! And I loved it, really good ending! 4.5 stars is my final rating (view spoiler)[ would have been 5, but I HATE the love triangle in this story. I hate what happened with Jost, although it is believable. And though I like Erik, I liked Jost better. But most of all, I hate that its two brothers. That kind of thing really bugs me. And it makes her seem kind of wishy washy. Okay, rant over!

Other than that, I loved this book! The world building is so inventive and cool, definitely the best part of the story. I really liked the addition of Dante, and all that represented at the end with her genetics. I also really loved all the sarcastic humor, this book had me giggling, even in the darkest of places. Adelice has a very witty banter with just about everyone, even her enemies, which is fun! Great read! (hide spoiler)]

It'll be great to see Gennifer Albin speak. I hope she talks about how the heck she came up with this world!! Sooooo inventive!
