Jillian (mother_of_dinosaurs) The best advice I can give you is to be open minded and don't let anyone ever tell you what to think or believe.

I hated confirmation class also because they would attempt to drill into us what to think and believe. I was the only one who would speak up and disagree with what the teacher was saying. And it felt good too.

Hi Rain,

Amazing. Thank you for sharing. I did and didn't like catechism too. I thought they were going to tell me some secrets but it seemed it was just about learning more prayers. Don't worry about it, it doesn't last that long. As my catholic grandmother used to say, there's good and bad in all religion and there's good and bad in all people.

I loved the ritual of the catholic church and still love my catholic grandmother and great aunts. I now just read the bible and try to be a good person. But I don't go to church and I miss midnight mass on Christmas eve, the statues of jesus, the virgin mary and joseph, ash wednesday, the palms, communion, lighting the prayer candles, even lent. maybe I'll go sometime again.

go in peace and god bless :)

-Rain,
Please allow me to offer some words of consolation. Confirmation class's a breeze. You can bring your Game Boy, text your friends, fantasize about your fellow confirmation students etc. Know why? Because it's literally impossible to fail confirmation class. When I did my 8 bloody years of Catholic school internment, there was a nun (who surprisingly) hated me with a f**king passion. Her name is (was?)Sister Kathleen and since she was a woman given to pageantry & tradition she hated me in much the same rich spirit with which she also hated my older brother (who transferred out in 7th grade, lucky bastard).

Only people who have attended Catholic school can appreciate how truly evil nuns can be.

But even Sister Kathleen, who was kind enough to take me to the side & kindly let me know that while I'd passed all 'the confirmation quizzes' that she was firmly convinced that I was essentially 'unworthy' of taking part in confirmation, didn't have the brass ones to take her views to my parents. As a result? Chill out! The actual confirmation's a breeze, you stroll on up say 'I believe in God' hang out for a while & next thing you know your friends & family shower you w/$$$ afterwards. It's totally awesome! Don't get me wrong, your Jewish friends who are having to interpret the Torah & do some serious work are going to be cursing your name, but so it goes.
