I liked the book. Although the first and last 50 pages where slow going. Mostly, i think, because of the over complication of them. The first 50 suffered from "term dumping" without any defining and the last 50 could have used a few scene/dialogue or "close up" edits. But I did like alot of the midsection, really engaging and lots of great world building. I'm looking forward to the next one.

While the circus was dazzling, the plot/ romance was lacking. It only ever progressed when the characters told you what was happening. ie we know when the leads fall in love only because the say they are now in love,... There was no actions of it before hand that we could see/experience to believe it.

I think i waited too long between reading the first book and this one, because while everyone else thought it was a step up from the last one, I couldn't get into it~ I think i might just not have been in the right frame of mind. I'll have to give it another go in the future.

You know, I've always heard how scandalous and erotic this book was and I have to say, I don't get the taboo! While I think it was a little lax in regards to Claires emotional resistance to the 2nd marriage (in her mind she couldn't marry because she was already married, but she never really brought up that she shouldn't marry again because she was already married AND emotionally dedicated to her husband. she only ever really said she missed him, which isn't the same thing to me... What do you all think? ) Anyway back to the taboo of the book, to me this is not erotica. It just seems funny to me thinking of the prude that read and defined it as such, because I don't think all sex scenes in books automatically = erotica. The sex scenes were... personal, and meant to show the development of the characters not to arouse the reader... which is what erotica is suppose to do.... anyway rant over I liked the book, and heard there making it into a tv series so I'm interested in how that is going to turn out too.
