There's just so many good books out there

Damnit, old books! I have so much new stuff to catch up on! :D
Haha, I have that with LotR (try to re-read it once a year) and A Song of Ice and Fire at the mo. And Divergent, which I've been meaning to re-read since we chose it for BotM.

I just read first two books (only ones released at this time) of Brian Staveley's Chronicles of the Unhewn Throne. The first was The Emperors Blades, and the second was Providence of Fire. I read them because they were recommended to me by people who's opinions I greatly respect and I was not disappointed.
Both books were excellent and the ending of the second book was a Doozie. I recommend them to anyone who enjoys gritty epic fantasy with lots of political intrigue with highly trained teams of assassin warriors riding giant death birds into hugh pressure situations, human sacrifices to God's of pain, explosions, millenniums old immortal antagonists, and just good old fashioned awesomeness.

Jospeh, I really enjoye that as well. We did it aa a group read a while back and I thought it was a really good adventure. I bought a few more of the series and I'll dip back in soon enough.
Lancer I'm delighted you've enjoyed Brian Staveley's books as much as I did. And that ending is so good. I had half an idea of what was coming because of a twitter chat I had with Brian but it still amazed me. I'm hoping to get an early copy of book 3 like I did the rest of the series as its been one of the best new writers I've read in a while. We'll have to spread the word.

I wonder how many people picked up on the owl.
Also I am going to have to find out how you get early copies. Always jealous of you guys/gals

from what I can remember it had mixed reviews some liked it others found it very dated.
I know I wasn't very impressed to be honest

Oooooo so it takes some sort of effort on my part. That's a downer :p if I wasn't in university or have 2 young daughters I would be all over it. I guess I will just be a chump and wait for release dates like everyone else lol.

Last book I read was The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. Such an interesting little read with an ending I failed to see coming.

Finally finished the stand and absolutely loved it. Took me forever to finish because of university but it was worth it. It had been on my shelf for far too long
I finished Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West yesterday. Overall I felt that it was a pretty overrated book. It was a decent read but I don't understand why it's on every list of must read books.
I think the musical has built the hype on this one a lot, which is funny as the book and musical are very different.

Yeah, that was kind of a waste of time. The musical is a lot of fun, but the stories are actually very different.

I just finished Book of a Thousand Days, which was really good. Yesterday I started Dragonflight, but I didn't like it, so I quit it today.

That'a bummer, I love Pern, one of my favorite places to visit :)
I didn't actually start with dragonflight though I read DragonSong first, I just loved Menolly and her fire lizards, then with the addition of dragons I was hooked.

Books 3-5 of the Mageborn series by Michael G. Manning. I read the first two as soon as they were released. (Amazon recommended as a new and upcoming author) I then forgot about this series until about a month ago when I found that he finished the series, and created more stories in the same universe. They new books are good, and his writing style has developed nicely.
I also read the Dragon Stone Trilogy by Kristian Alva. I got this for free from the kindle's owners lending library. It wasn't bad. It started off similar to Eragon by Christopher Paolini, but then branched off into it's own story. The ending to the trilogy was kind of anti-climactic, but it was still a decent read. Especially when it was free.
Last book I read was do androids dream of electric sheep which was long overdue and I loved it. Different enough from the movie to keep it interesting.

I really enjoyed the book Lancer. I find the difference between it and Bladerunner are quite big making both very interesting in there own rights. Have you read any other PKD
No that's actually my first. I have read far less sci fi than fantasy so I'm trying to get some of the classics in. I recently bought Dune, and Neuromancer and will be reading them soon. I'm likely going to read Dune once I finish with Ruin.
Playing Dragon Age: Inquisition is making me crave some epic fantasy to read - but I also want to read a load of sci-fi between now and end of November for an event I'm doing. Dilemma!
Rinn have you read any of John Gwynne's Faithful and the Fallen Series? It is some pretty awesome epic fantasy.

I finished Crane last night. Tis the season. It was a modern day re-imagining of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. It was a very fun read.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Josh but Morning Star has not been released yet. We are all waiting ever so patiently :)

Paul, what's an ARC?

Another random thought: has anyone else read the Apprentice Adept series by Piers Anthony? Like Red Rising, the people there have different colors, and each color relates to a specific kind of job. Well, in Apprentice Adept, it's a specific type of magic. But it stuck me as similar when I started reading these books.
I just finished Sorceror to the Crow , a recent debut by Zen Cho. Very similar to Jonathan Strange. Quite good but quite slow in parts.
Next up I'm going to read a gothic horror , The Taxidermists Daughter by Kate Mosse before jumping head first into a glut of scifi for Scifi month.

Dumb Question, is November sci fi month. If so hopefully I get Ruin done by then. I'm thinking I will finally tackle Dune next.
