André Filipe This is the first time that I try to climb a mountain.
I am a Portuguese guy who lives in London, so I will try to read both languages, which will be a bit more time consuming, but my bookshelves are full of both types of books, and the mountain calls!!

André Filipe To start the climbing I choose Of Mice And Men by John Steinbeck .
I bought in the end of 2013 at a hospital fair, for only 50p !!
I was so thrilled!!
I enjoyed the book. Although the author is quite famous, it was the first time I read a book from him.
It is quite easy to read, and I really enjoyed the scenarios and characters profiles. It took me back to a time that as something to have with me.
Just an outside note, as I was reading it, a friend of mine was watching "12 Years a Slave", so it kind of motivated me even more to continue this reading, ahahah!!
I am already on my second book, this challenge looks promising!!
Keep climbing!!

Andre
I'm glad you like the Steinbeck book. He's one of my favorite writers . If you get the chance, try East of Eden . It's wonderful !

André Filipe Thanks Karen! It was lucky I saw the book so, so cheap, and fortunately it was a nice start to the challenge!!

André Filipe Chronicle of a Death Foretold, Gabriel García Marquez was my second choice for the challenge.

It was the second time I read this author and I enjoyed this book more than the first one I read a few years ago.
Gabriel starts by telling us the end of the story, and guides us easily through the "whys" and "hows" that death occurred.
A quite friendly book, that made me feel that I put my time to a good use.
If someone asked me:
" - Should I read it?"
My answer would be, yeaaah!!
It was the first time I read a book in Spanish, and I will definitely do it again!!
Keep climbing!!

C. (Comment, never msg). (riedel) Tengo varios libros de él, pero como Canadiense, voy a leerlos en Inglés. Voy a probar también Carlos Luis Zafrón, empezando con el Inglés. Carolyn.

What other book have you read by him ? I keep meaning to check out his writing, I want to start with "A Hundred Years of Solitude", but tbh his popularity kind of intimidates me ha.

C. (Comment, never msg). (riedel) I have several (unread to date) of his and more Hispanic greats. This is little known about me but in university, Spanish was my major. :) It'll be fun getting back to those racinas (roots). Carolyn.

André--so glad to have you climbing with us! Good luck with the rest of the challenge! "Of Mice & Men" is one of my favorites too. Haven't read it since high school...but it was one of the few classics that we had to read then that I really did enjoy.

The other book that I read was "Aventura De Miguel Litti", but it wasn't a pleasant reading for me unfortunately..
"A Hundred Years of Solitude" sounds like a heavy reading, good luck with that((;

André Filipe Third step in the challenge:

Barbershop by Júlio Conrado

I know that I enjoyed the book...
But I can't really say more than that: I am still trying to understand the end =O!!

I haven't read a Portuguese author since a long time ago, and reading a totally unknown author for me, and enjoy the book.. it is a win for me!!

Unfortunately, my "reading luck" does not extend to my "choosing movies luck" ahahah ( I haven't seen great movies late :p)!!

Keep climbing!!
