Is this book better than Twilight?

I'm personally not a fan of Twilight (although I did like it when I was about fourteen) but I love The Host. I do find Melanie/Wanda a lot stronger than Bella but it's still sort of falls into that category of corny teenage romance novel. If you want to get an idea of the storyline you could watch the film but if you ask me it's a pretty awful adaptation, so if you sort of like the movie, you'll probably enjoy the book. (:
Sorry, this is a really unhelpful comment haha
I loved this book! I prefered the characters & growing relationships in TH rather than the claustophobic relationship of Bella & Edward.
The Host is so much better than Twilight! The main character - Wanda - is, for starters, much more interesting that Bella by the mere fact she is an alien! Melanie is strong determined, the complete opposite of Bella and Wanda is a kind, loving person but not one to mope about. I think the reason that this book is so much better than Twilight is because they are in the middle of invasion so there is no time for crying over the fact the creepy boy who watches you sleep has left!
In a lot of ways the Host was much more grown up and less dramatic than Twilight. I liked it a lot better than Twilight and would recommend it.
I didn't really like this book. That being said I enjoyed the Twilight series, I just think this book was too hyped up and I felt disappointed when it didn't live up to my expectations. I still think if you didn't like Twilight you could like this book. The main protagonists aren't like Bella at all, seeing as the plot of the novel is completely sci-fi and has to do more with a whole new Earth and how things have changed. I would still recommend people reading it to see how they like it themselves, so I think there's a good chance you might like it!
I found the host to be boring, but Twilight wasn't any competition. I would recommend it, but the plot does drag on for too long in classic Meyer style
If you have the time, it is much better than Twilight. It also takes a lot more concentration, and you have to be resigned to the fact that you will have no idea what is happening until halfway through. Nevertheless, I would recommend it, it encapsulates all the drama of Twilight but without the creepy stalker vampire.
The Host is a little slow at times, but if Bella is the thing that annoyed you most about Twilight you will probably enjoy this one more. Wanda is very quiet and self-sacrificing, but not in an annoying and weak way, while Melanie is a fighter and has a bit of an attitude. It's not the best book ever written, but it's not horrible either.
Heck yeah this is better than twilight. This book has a good story line there is no vampite romance, it is a great sci fi read I think. I would highly recomend it. totally.
i loved this series, much more than twilight, the characters especially the main heroine were better developed, stronger, deeper, and you were rooting for her vs getting annoyed by her.
This book is in my opinion better then twilight. it does however start out really slow. if you can push past that it picks up around the time get Melanie/Wanda to the caves. Sadly i don't think books 2 and 3 will ever come out but this books ends well enough to be a stand alone.

I was impressed by how much imagination Stephanie used in The Host. It is worth the read just to be plunged into a whole new world of sci-fi! I fell in love with the paradox of the souls, the aliens that took over human race. They are good to the bones of their borrowed body and yet here they are extinguishing human race as we know it. I definitely recommend it, it's tons better than Twilight (this coming from me, who was a bit creazy about it when I was younger).
I wouldn't say that The Host is better than Twilight. I am a pretty big fan of the Twilight series, though. I thought The Host was alright, but it frustrated me a lot to see how the characters interacted--they treat each other so horribly sometimes. Perhaps it's just in SM's nature to write irritating characters, I don't know. I doubt I'll read it again, but I'd recommend it to someone who thinks they might be interested in reading it.
I really enjoyed this book. I did like the movie however the book is much better it shows more aspects of the story which was impossible to show in the movie. In comparison to Twilight definitely better.
I read this book after I read the Twilight series. I loved Twilight, but The Host was like reading from a completely different author. I can say it is definitely one of my favorite books.
I didn't like this book much.Couldn't read beyond 100 pages .I am not a great fan of Twilight series

I didn't like the Host. At least the main character fights to maintain her identity. I didn't go for the premise at all.

THIS BOOK PUTS THE WHOLE TWILIGHT SERIES TO SHAME, PROVES STEPHANIE MEYER HAS MORE TO SHOW THAN SHE OFFERS
Heck yes this is better than twilight. I actually did not like twilight a lot and when I read this book I was like WOW. I mean seriously wow. Loved this book.
This book is amanzing.Forget about the Twilight saga, the only thing this book and the series have in common is the same author. At first sight it looks like it's a book about aliens, but in reality it's about the human kind and it's questioning how much humanity remains in us all. It's a book about survival, about love (so many types of love: loving yourself, loving the planet you live on, loving your family, your friends), about finding yourself... a book about trust, friendship and faith. As you can see I really enjoyed this book so much, then when Meyer added a new bonus chapter, I bought another copy.I hope this has help you.
The Host is much better than twilight. They are on completely different planes. If i didnt know it was by the same writer I would have trouble connecting the two books at all.

What a shock I received thinking they would be anything alike. Though the beginning of the Host was slow it picked up after the first chapter and never stopped! Great book.
I really did enjoy "The Host". I have never read any of the "Twilight " series. I am not into the paranormal stuff. It did not interest me at all to read any of those. So, I could not compare the two books. When I first saw the author, it did not occur to me that this is the same author that wrote the "Twilight" series. This was a good book though--it was different.
I read the Twilight saga and The Host and I really liked The Host. The female characters were strong and the plot of aliens taking over a persons mind/body was great.
I don't think there is such a thing as a book being bad or good. If you like it then it's good on some level for you. I think that The Host has an advantage over Twilight in that it is a stand alone and you can get more easily immersed in the world. I liked it more for that reason.

no its great but because toy hate twilight i don't think you're worthy of reading it
Idk. I think both Twilight and the Host were really good. I do think the Host was more grown up as it is an Adult book and that did help the story along.
I definitely like the host better than twilight. I think there's a bit more depth in the host, though I'd also agree that it's more of an adult book than YA fiction.

The main character isn't even human and (I may be wrong it's been two or three years since I read it) she has very little to no interest in boys except for a slight (it grows as the story progresses) in Ian (if memory serves me).
Better than Twilight? Hmm. I think no. Now I don't worship Twilight like its the greatest book since the bible, but the story was good. It was original and thought out. The characters maybe weren't the best but that was really its only major flaw. (That and her lack of a thesaurus) but The Host was slowly paced, lacked tension, didn't really go anywhere, had the same characters as the twilight series and leaves you bereft of a decent ending. So yes, I think that Twilight was better. (not that that is saying much)
I loved The Host and I think this book is soooooooooooooo much better than the Twilight series
