February is the last of our Summer months - but even though the calendar tells us this, will the heat continue? Or will it be APOCALYPTIC - an abrupt ending to Summer?

Sandra | 1176 comments There were a lot of books on those listopia lists but I found one I want to read that's also been on my tbr for a very long time Something from the Nightside (Nightside, #1) by Simon R. Green

message 6: by Gothie (new)

Gothie BioVenom (gotherellabiovenom) | 39 comments I'm going to read a couple if my library has them :)

Starting with re-reading 1984 by George Orwell.
Then I'll be looking into a few other series.

I've read Hunger Games and the Divergent series already and want to read some new books for this challenge :)

message 7: by Kathryn (last edited Jan 19, 2014 07:20PM) (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments The only book on these lists that is also on my TBR (that I can see) is Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, so I could read that, or something by Ted Dekker (I saw Forbidden on one list), but I'll have to wait and see - my February is already quite full of potential reading matter!!

message 8: by Carol (new)

Carol (mecaza) | 22 comments I am going to re-read The Stand. I first read it many years ago and loved it then. Be interesting to see if I still love it as much, after devouring many more books in the genre.

Some good choices coming up already:)

message 13: by Sally906 (last edited Jan 19, 2014 08:06PM) (new)

Sally906 | 86 comments I have The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey ready to go and I may, just may, read The Twelve by Justin Cronin as well - is a huge book but having an e-book may take the scary size away. I really enjoyed the first one (The Passage) and read that as a e-book and coped alright with it saying I had read 25%.

message 14: by Elaine (last edited Jan 19, 2014 09:27PM) (new)

Elaine | 2001 comments I will try to read Wool, if my reserve from the library comes through in time otherwise I will read Ender's Game, which I own and is also on my TBR.

message 15: by Gary (new)

Gary Vassallo | 14 comments I will read Life As We Knew It. It looks interesting.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Elaine wrote: "I will try to read Wool, if my reserve from the library comes through in time otherwise I will read Ender's Game, which I own and is also on my TBR."

Wool is great. I don't think I'd really categorise Ender's Game as post-apocalyptic though, just science fiction.

message 17: by Zoey (new)

Zoey (rozannen) | 1045 comments Dont think I will get around to it as I'm running waaaaayyy behind in the Summer Challenge. But if I get time, I will read Delirium or Wither

message 18: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 9836 comments I'm going to start with Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood, the first book in her Maddadam series as I've been told the whole trilogy is really good.

Oh really Liam? It was on one of the lists I thought. Is there another you would recommend? I've read The Road and The Hunger Games trilogy and really enjoyed all 4 books. Is there something similar to those other than Divergent which I wouldn't read? Does Gone qualify as post-apocalyptic? That's another one I want to read.

message 21: by Sharon (new)

Sharon | 5464 comments My choice for this challenge will be The Giver by Lois Lowry

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) I haven't read Gone but I think it'd qualify - I can see why someone would think Ender's would be but I really wouldn't say it is. That's just me though.

Angelfall series is another one - although it is very much Twilight-but-with-angels.

message 23: by Elaine (new)

Elaine | 2001 comments Thanks Liam I appreciate the feedback as it is a genre I'm not really familiar with...even at work I struggle with it!!! I really want to read Wool so hopefully it will come through in time from the library. Then I might try Gone if it doesn't.

I Am Legend would be a good book to read for this challenge - and so would The Gunslinger.
A quick search hasn't shown me anything I want to read. I might go to bed and have another look tomorrow!

I agree. I really liked Gunslinger. I got excited when I saw this month's topic. I read this genre a lot so it was quite easy to pick.

I wanted to read it.

It sounds good but it is old so I thought I might have trouble getting it. Turns out my library does not have it, it is not available on Kindle so I have ordered the paperback from Book Depository.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Technically 1984 isn't post-apocalyptic either... :P

message 41: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9974 comments seeing as I just picked this up @ Salvos for $3, I will read Wool by Hugh Howey , maybe Oryx and Crake (MaddAddam Trilogy, #1) by Margaret Atwood too, if I get time...

Great Choice Brenda!
I'm presently the first in the series so I'll finish February with MockingJay!
PS: sorry no links (how do you do that?)

Doreen wrote: "Brenda wrote: "My choice for this challenge is Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins .. the last one in the series I've been waiting to read for a little while. Perfect oppor..."

Doreen, in the top right hand corner of your comment box it says "add book/author". Click on that, then type in the book you want to find - either title or ISBN, "search" and click "add" when the correct one shows. It will automatically appear in this box. Then go back to it to get the cover (down the bottom of the drop-down box it says "link/cover" so click on "cover" and the same with author:)

Hope you're enjoying The Hunger Games - I loved the first two:)
