Mersedes AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH! This movie was so good! I loved that they kept in the incest parts and I love that Corrine is such a complete bitch. So good.

Iris I LOVED the new movie! It was so0o0o like the book! And Kiernan Shipka killed it as Cathy. (The actor who played Christopher as well) I cannot wait to see it again. It captured everything I loved about the book. The resilience of the children, the sympathy you felt (or at least I did) for the grandmother. The hatred you had for their mother.

The setting was fantastic and the script was well written. It was infinitely better than the 1987 version. Thank you Lifetime, thank you.

Removed Removed Ok, so not WOW, but definitely massive improvement over the 1980's version. Ellen Burstyn was incredible as the grandmother, thought both the roles of Chris and Cathy were well portrayed. Heather Graham seemed at points to be trying to remember her lines which was really the only major downer. (view spoiler).

Overall, definite win for Lifetime! If they are planning a sequel, I would drop Heather Graham and keep everyone else. Good job Lifetime.

YES OMG! I felt the sympathy too! When they tried to give her the collage! Like you could see the tears in her eyes! Or when she was like 'sweets can kill you' I was like wait?!??! IS SHE WARNING THEM??!? They did so well! And they really did do a fantastic job. Poor Christopher so naive and wanting to believe in Corrine.

For a second though I totally thought they were going to skip the sex part of it. But then they actually did it and I was like omg yes. Petals in the Wind is going to be fucking fantastic!

I was happy about the sex part too. It was sweet and very loving; a form of escapism for the kids. I never really understood the people who thought it was rape in the book. It didn't come across that way to me.

It totally was! I was just ready to cry because it was just so aaaaahhhh. It was perfect and it might be because I have the hots for Chris but I thought it was wonderful! I didn't think so either! I mean I thought it was weird but given the situation it's natural. Sigh. Those kisses were beautiful

Ann Vogel loved the new movie, haven't read the series for over a decade surprised at how much i remembered, and stuff i didn't. eagerly await rumored movie of second book in series!

LaTrica I also really liked the movie. Corinne made a bigger impression on me in the film than she did in the book. I also agree that the twins were only around to be bratty. They kind of disappeared for large chunks of the movie.

Sarbi Where could I watch it? Where I live I couldn´t see it yesterday.

Melissa I was kind of disappointed, especially in the portrayal of the grandmother. It was like they tried to make her sympathetic to the children, instead of being the cold, hard, patrician harridan she was in the book/original movie. The whole thing fell a little short for me, but I am glad they kept in the incest, since it was an integral focus of the book and then the later sequels.

I agree with Iris and Mersedes! Great movie, and I loved Ellen Burstyn! Excellent as Olivia and totally almost human. I thought Heather Graham was wonderful as greedy, morally bankrupt Corrine.

Carla Baslee Iolanda wrote: "It was an amazing film and closest to the book we'll ever get but there WAS flaws, a lot of things were changed but who cares? they kept the incest which is good, it was so important."

Yeah, they really changed that ending, didn't they? I enjoyed the final confrontation with Olivia though. Really looking forward to the Lifetime adaptation of Petals on the Wind!

Marie I loved this movie. It was way better than the old one. It followed the book very well but it left out a few important scenes from the book. No mention of Christopher's dreams of becoming a doctor or how they would all sit together on the big rocking chair, showing how close the four of them were. A lot of detail/ scenes left out maybe due to not having enough time to show it :(. Also I didnt like the ending that much. There was no fence or butler scene at the end. Other than that it was great. I can't wait for the next movie :)

Carla Baslee I agree about the fence and the butler. Also there was no great final confrontation with Olivia, but from the standpoint of the kids, that was sweet, wasn't it??

Cherie I hadn't read the books in years, but it was amazing the amount of detail I remembered as I watched the movie. It was nice they tried to stick more to the book than the previous film version.

The down side for me was the at Heather Graham really has no acting chops. Her Corrine was stiff and flat. It was more reciting lines than acting. I do think the Corrine from the first movie was a much better Portrayal. I thought Cathy was a little stiff as will, but she perhaps could benefit from a little direction. Christopher and Olivia was well portrayed.

I also think the film fell short in getting the depth of emotion. I wish they would have made it a 3 hour presentation, so they could have time to really tell the story without rushing because of commercial breaks. There were nuiances missing, like how close the twins actually were. How Corey really was the heart of all of them. The depth of emotion and feeling between Cathy and Christopher as they were locked up together for years.

I do hope they make the next one, but I also hope Corrine is recast, and they they get a much better director.

Serena I thought the movie was good. as gross as brother and sister are they where a product of what their mother did to them. had they been in a normal school with other boys and girls Im sure Cathy would have wanted someone other then chris and vice verusa. But they where locked up in the attic for years with only each other. I actully blame the incest on the mother for allowing her kids to be in such an enviorment

Carla Baslee You could chicken-and egg the blame for all the incest in the Foxworth Family incessantly, right? Bottom line: I wonder if it ever occured to Olivia (certainly not to Malcolm!) to tell Corrine and Christopher Sr; 'YOU TWO CANNOT HOOK UP YOU ARE BROTHER AND SISTER!!'

Serena wasnt she against them in the prequal book carla? I thought they where ripped into for hooking up=I cant remeber so Im gonna have to reread it

Joyce Hernandez I also really enjoyed the movie. I would still recommend to everyone to read the book as well.

I disagree. I think that Cathy and Chris were pre-wired to fall in love with each other. In the books you saw how close they were and how they each resembled their mother and father; they would draw the parallels between the two 'couples' in their minds. Also sexual preference is hereditary; it's been proven that if the father is a sexual deviant then the son is more likely to be one too. So if incest (even unwitting incest) turned the father (Christopher Sr.) on then It would more than likely turn Christopher on too.

Perhaps they wouldn't have acted on it if they were out and about in the real world but the thought would definitely have crossed their minds and the longing would have got to them just the same. (Corey and Carrie would probably fall into the trap too.)

Carla Baslee Serena they were up against Malcolm and Olivia I thought....have to give Garden of Shadows another read. I was making the assumption that Malcolm wasn't so much about the incest as his obsession with his little girl. I'm thinking: Gee, if Malcolm and Olivia had 'the talk' with Corrine and Christopher Sr before the relationship got out of hand, there would be no book series ! :D I'll shut up then (giggle) :D

Courtney I hated it, maybe I was in the minority

Naomi I thought it was good since it was more like the book. I like the original for the actors and the setting.

Sprout117 I am a big fan of the original movie and the book so I really did look forward to this movie and I felt somewhat disappointed. The acting was fantastic and I loved Heather Graham and Ellen Burstyn, BUT there was too much interpretation. The grandmother was slightly sympathetic, the younger children were non existent, too much focus on Cathy and Heather Graham was a bit too likable even in her transformation. The original strong emotions of enormous dislike and absolute love for the original characters was blurred on this movie whereas the original left you really able to evoke unwavering emotion (good or bad) towards the character. I wanted to like this but didn't, it just didn't hold my focus or cause me to reminisce about a story that I love.

Side Topic: I hear they are making petals in the wind now...I just tried to read the book and can't even finish, really dislike. Anyone have an opinion on petals (I really hate Cathy's grown up character and feel vc Andrews rams it down your throat even after you get the pony of what she has become).

Sprout117 Iolanda wrote: "Lifetime has a low budget so it was literally impossible to wedge in every detail of the book into a 90 minute movie. Re-watching it, I'm cringing. It was more like a rushed, summarization of the n..."

I couldn't agree more, but then again it was a lifetime movie so maybe my expectations were set too high which caused my disappointment.
