I've been drinking a lot of flowery teas this summer. They're so delightful on hot, still days.

Ugh. Something in the air? I woke up at 1:00 a.m. and couldn't go back to sleep, knowing my alarm would go off at 5:30. It seems to be happening more and more frequently.

Good sleep vibes to you. :)

Yes, since it's going to be Midsummer in just a few days, I'd rather not have snow, thank you very much. My Finnish friends are currently posting photos on FB of their children making snowmen this morning... as you said, that's Nordic for you. ;-)

Over here it has been too cold to swim for three days. Today I am going in, regardless of the wind. THE WEATHER SHALL BOW TO ME!!! BOW I SAY!!

That should last all of thirty seconds before I pop out of the pool again, blue and teeth-chattering...

That sounds like something I would do. Or put my toe in and take it quickly back out before running away. :-)

I'm so picky about things. I only like peppermint tea and it has to have gobs of honey in it. Otherwise, no go.

This is how swimming is conducted where I come from. The fjords are beautiful, but cold.

Yes. The ones I got are Ankle length, which fits me perfectly. They're the Gflex pants. I got them in dark grey and black. Here's the listing for black, though I bought mine in store:

Wind

Weird (atypical for this time of year), persistent winds, on hot days that cloud over and suggest rain, then smatter just enough to muck up our clean cars.

Carlita wrote: "Ephemeral"

Thanks to Carlita, I learned a new English word today. :-)

I wonder if ephemeral is as difficult to say as apothecary? I never learned to say that one correctly even though our Jordan did a wonderful job trying to teach me in UK. Pronouncing apothecary is just mission impossible for me. I always get the intonation all wrong and the word just comes out totally incomprehensibly.

To my huge relief Julie Bozza had a pile of her The Apothecary's Garden books near her when I talked to her and tried to tell her how much I had liked the book. All I had to do was to point at the book pile to make myself understood. ;-) Also, dear Ije happened to be right by me and she helped me by pronouncing apothecary beautifully. :-)

I like the word ephemeral. :)

Hubby has trouble with the th sound. DD is forever trying to correct his English grammar and pronunciation, poor guy. ;-)

We can't trill our R's, though. I really wish I could do that. :D

:-D

That was a very fun time at dinner that night, wasn't it?

Awhile back I was somewhere with my parents and I saw a calliope, and I pronounced it "call-i-op-ee" and my Dad corrected me, saying "call-ee-op".

Having just read Something Wicked This Way Comes, there is a calliope in it, that gets mentioned at least once per page it seems. And I kept reading it wrong in my head, then realizing I'd actually read it correctly, then going back and forth, every time I read it. Oh, it was painful having to read that word so many times!

This also how swimming is often conducted in New Zealand. It has to be a properly warm summer day for it to be at all enjoyable, and even then it's still bloody cold. It's always extremely invigorating to take a dip in the sea! There's a bit of a family tradition here to go for a swim on New Year's Day (in the middle of the summer, remember). Some years I look forward to it, some years not. A few years ago, it was quite a big news story when a large house-sized iceberg drifted up from Antarctica and spent some time offshore of the South Island. For a country that's completely beach-obsessed, not too much swimming actually happens.
