The Best Thing About Today...

I met lots of people I know, and distributed leaflets for same-sex marriage. When I was tired I sat for a while to see the people passing by and I was moved because it was such a diverse and happy crowd.
I liked that there were fewer ''commercial'' floats, I suppose because it was postponed several times.
That sounds great!
Our Pride was cancelled again this year due to Covid and then the organization that runs Pride broke up rather than address racism within the group. Like... what?! So I have no idea when/if/how we will have Pride events here ever again.

That's a pity.
I noticed that many people wore mask, but not all. I hope there won't be a Covid surge among Pride participants...

I’m feeling a need to be creative and am plotting a project for NaNoWriMo this evening.
Earlier today I got a lot of work done on my Writing Fiction guide at work! I’m doing an annual link-check for broken or dead links before I let our communications department tell the world it exists again in time for NaNoWriMo. I also figure out how to fix the color of the links. Long story, but basically I was blind to the possibilities of using the hex code to get the exact color I wanted. Duh. Lol. Now all links will be the same shade of blue.
I’m not finished with the guide yet, I still have one last section to check over, but I’m super excited to share it with folks. There’s just so much info packed into it!

Yay!
Finally fought long and hard enough with my printer to print out my 122 page document.
I also got a billing issue straightened out with my electric company so that felt great too.
I also got a plant repotted! yay! And made a stew!
I accomplished a lot today!
What about you? Have any of you accomplished anything you're happy/proud about?

Great! But only three months to the next one?!?

You did a lot, including the Writing Fiction guide you mentioned before.
I'm happy because I finally booked a hearing test. I want to know if my hearing is deteriorating.
Sometimes I have to ask people to repeat what they said, and when I go for a walk with the neighbours' son we cross a narrow bridge only for pedestrians and bikes, and he often has to warn me that a bike is coming from behind: I don't hear them most of the time. Maybe he has a 110% functioning hearing and me a 90%, but I prefer to check it.
The first appointment I could book is Mid December, but I had been postponing this since at least one year, so I'll just wait a bit longer...

Took my first exam in my copy editor's course. The class is fact-checking and it's driving me nuts. It's one of those professors who seem to think we already know everything; you know the type. Just drones on for the two hour lectures without any slides or presentations, gives out a couple of one- to three-page reading assignments a week, and then expects us to know what we're doing.
Example: one (out of five) of the exam questions was to write an email to an editor suggesting changes to a document, because she "wanted to be sure we knew the format." Problem is, she never taught us the format for emailing an editor, only for emailing the author and sources (sigh).
At least it's over.

An exciting time!

In the end I went to the presentation of «Annette: An Epic Heroine» (Annette, ein Heldinnenepos) by Anne Weber which won the prestigious German Book Prize 2020. BTW the heroin of the title is still alive, she was born in 1923. Information in English here:
https://www.matthes-seitz-berlin.de/b...
After the presentation all the participants were invited to drink something and have a further chat with the author and with other participants. It was nice that I stayed instead of running to see at least part of a second event, as I had planned to do ;-).
It's a gray and cold day in SoCal. I'm sitting in front of the fireplace playing around with coda ideas for the Advent Calendar. My Christmas shopping is done (ARGH except for one gift that was lost in shipping) and almost everything is wrapped. We just got a "seafood dinner" shipment from Goldbelly.
So...Christmastime. That is the best thing about today.

I missed this. Congratulations! It seems like one of the good things that came out of the pandemic was people deciding to make the necessary changes to be happy in their work.

The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quite alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature. As longs as this exists, and it certainly always will, I know that then there will always be comfort for every sorrow, whatever the circumstances may be. And I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles.

The story behind this:
A friend sent me today this lovely quote ''by Anton Checkov''. I wanted to add it to my quotes, but I couldn't find it on GR. So I checked and I found out that, although in many sites it is attributed to Anton Checkov, in fact it is by Anne Frank, which makes it even better, in general and because we are in the week of the 27th January (the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz) designated by the United Nations as International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Best thing about today and this week really is that a group of librarians and I have found back issues of an annual booklist that we think got started in 1973 (which means next year will be the 50th anniversary of this list!). It's called Black Is... and contains books about the African American experience. We're looking to get it digitized along with our other annual booklists and to get a webpage dedicated to the lists so patrons can easily find them on our website. It's going to be soooo cool when we're done! We really thought for a brief moment that we wouldn't find all the issues, but we're only missing 6 issues right now, which is amazing!
Black Is, is the first of our annual published booklists. We created one called Latino Life (now called Latinx Life) in the early 2000's. Then We Are Pride came out in 2017 about the LGBTQ+ experience. The Asian Pacific American Heritage list just came out within the last few years and Native Lives, Native Stories came out in 2021. I have a coworker looking to start a list for Disability Pride, but that won't officially come out for awhile. And something to cover the Middle East will hopefully come out after that. lol. It's a lot of booklists, but it makes sense not to just cover one or two areas, which the library did for a long time.
We're all very excited about all this!

I will! It might be awhile though. I just got the new Black Is... 2022 list today. It looks so good!

Best thing about today...
Well, I'm shaking off my aggravation. The final proofs to Fatal Shadows The Collector's Edition were supposed to be in my dropbox, but YET AGAIN, the wrong (partial, sample) file was instead uploaded by someone who shall be nameless (the SO!! ARGH!!!). But that just means I have a full day to work uninterrupted on The Movie-Town Murders.
So. A nice quiet writing day with only the dogs and the crackling fireplace to keep me company.

We're now on the 9th round of edits. LOL. But we're SO close. Like within a day or two of going live (fingers crossed).

The hardcover is going to be insanely expensive. As in just about $60.00 (GULP). And that's with me earning less than a dollar a book.
I'm hoping the soft cover will be a bit more reasonable. But jeez. Who knows?
