The best thing about today?

An early morning walk in the cold sunshine with my sister--followed by Irish coffee and book talk. :-)

Lol. Yeah, wouldn’t want to go out too early. But then, that also depends on where you live. It’s currently 8:10am here, I have the day off (working tomorrow), and I’m planning to take Adrien out for a long walk which we haven’t done for awhile. :-) then comes cleaning the apartment and possibly grocery shopping. Ugh. Lol.

Poor little Marlowe jumped up as he is wont to do and, for the first time ever, he fell over onto his back and hurt his leg. Also scared the heck out of himself and me both. :-(

But the good thing--the best thing about today--is he seems to be perfectly fine now! I was sure for a second there he had broken something. But nope. And he got extra treats and cuddles out of it, so all is well.

The best thing about today... is the cookie crawl at work! I got soooo many cookies! And had a lot of fun getting to see staff and offices I don't normally get to see except during the cookie crawl. lol. My department did a Harry Potter theme, so we decorated our space to look like Hogwarts and dressed appropriately. :-)

I go with Griffindor. I'm probably, realistically, a Hufflepuff, but I don't like the house colors, being afraid of bees and whatnot. lol.

So a cookie crawl is a lot like a pub crawl, except instead of alcohol, you get cookies! So each department decorates their space and will either bake or get store bought cookies, cupcakes and whatnot. Then you just walk around to each department and eat and save some for later.

The central library here is huge and we have a lot of departments spread throughout the building, some of which are hard to get to, so one really gets some exercise in all the walking!

My department also gives away free books that we wrap, so that no one knows which book it is, but we do put descriptions on the paper so you can determine if you think you'll like it or not. And we also had a quiz to see if you could name all the characters, whose pictures we had up on the wall.

Thank you for the explanation. I thought that maybe you had to look for the cookies hidden among the book or so ;-).

Loretta (loris65) | 1545 comments I meant to comment yesterday, so this is the best thing about yesterday! I just finished listening to 12 Seconds by Meg Perry on the Footsteps in the Dark anthology. It mentions my home town of Las Cruces, the Space Port, and nearby Holloman AFB. Yesterday, I got to visit the Space Port and stood in Mission Control. It was very exciting.

The best thing about today... I have my tai chi class tonight, if I can get there on time... and the knowledge that I am off tomorrow, though I had planned to attend the 8am tai chi class for the first time, so we'll see how that goes.

Also, I'm reading Josh's latest book, which makes me happy!

Best thing about today is that after work we (me and my colleagues) had our book club meeting in a nice cafe in the city center. We had a lively discussion about our latest book, The Road, which was definitely thought-provoking in a seriously post-apocalyptic kind of way. Oh, and I had a delicious piece of lime-lemon-meringue-pie — which wasn't exactly in line with our book's barren, miserable world. Oh, well. :-D

Let's see. Well, today I bit the bullet and faced the fact that between the puppy, the holidays, the Advent Calendar, the SO being sick AGAIN, me feeling like I might be starting to get sick AGAIN--and despite the recent Agnes incident--I've got to push Blind Side back a couple of weeks.

I'm not burnt out, but trying to push through when I'm this tired and stressed will not make for the best possible book, and I don't want to end the series with a belly flop.

So it's a sickening feeling, but also it's a huge relief because it's just impossible to get a chunk of undisturbed time right now.

I listened to it as audio and yes, I did like it. But... most of the time I really had to work hard for making myself listen to it. Many times I truly had to gather courage to continue, because frankly, The Road really scared me. It draws such a brutal picture of the end of civilization—the end of humanity. Mymymble is right, I didn't enjoy listening to it, but I did like it. And I think it was a healthy (?!) thing to do, to read it. If that makes sense.

I second all of this. Except that I haven't seen the film. But I might watch it because Viggo Mortensen is in it. :-)

I got to visit my mom yesterday and she’s doing pretty good. She won at bingo when we first found her in the rec room. :-D

My best friend should be spending the day with us today, so she’ll get to visit my mom, who is looking forward to seeing her again. Then my friend, her mom, and me and my dad are having lasagna for dinner, who is a sort of tradition for us on Christmas Eve when we’re all available.

Tomorrow, my dad and I will bring my mom home for the day and celebrate Christmas. :-D

We're hovering in both sides of 0°C which in my case (in here) is somewhat annoying—and shows clearly the climate change happening. Although it does make nice dog walking weathers...

Last night in northern Italy, in the Turin region, people coming out from the Christmas mass, that is after midnight, found a temperature of 17°C!

I'm glad for him and for the whole family. Speech, and poems, are so important for him!
