Today is the Great Global Greyhound Walk and we got to spend a few hours walking around in the arboretum nearby this morning with twenty-ish other greyhounds, lurchers, and Galgos. It’s so freaking gorgeous outside! But Adrien doesn’t like sitting still outside so while I would have found a way to keep reading Footsteps in the Dark on my phone under a tree all afternoon, we came home.

I’m visiting my parents next weekend, and today I will be making a huge batch of granola to take with me. I know it seems weird, but it’ll help my Dad who’s doing all the chores and then some. He doesn’t normally eat granola, but likes mine when I’ve gifted small jars in the past.

It was totally amazing and so beautiful! I posted pictures on my instagram should anyone care to see: www.instagram.com/qotu33

I find it fascinating how Greyhounds, when they greet each other, are so gentle and quick about it. And then they just stand around staring at the world around them. Unlike other dogs who go completely nuts when they meet someone new and the sniffing goes on forever. It's no wonder my dog hates greeting other dog breeds most of the time. If they ignore her, she's more likely to want to go sniff them if they are in close proximity. :-) So interesting!

You might be right. I do love looking at greyhounds in art! But I find it interesting when artists depict them sitting as most don’t sit. It looks so uncomfortable! Adrien has only sat about five times, maybe even less, in the last three years.

How I love a cuppa! But I only allow myself no more than three cups (well, mugs) (well, OK, three pots, technically) per week, and never two mornings in a row, to stave off a caffeine addiction.

Tea love. I probably drink way too much tea. One cup daily, sometimes more. One of my most favourite things is to have a cuppa in the afternoon with a couple of biscuits and a book, but I'm not often home in the afternoon, so it's a rare treat. Sam, you are very disciplined, with your three cups a week. :)

Alison | 4756 comments The best thing about yesterday: quitting my job...because I got a better one! Yay! I've been working as a retail manager for several years now and I don't like it and it's never been the right job for me, but I can do it and my current job is not terrible and I've been looking for something else for a while and it finally all worked out. I have a new job at the public library which I am super excited about. And, joy of joys, I don't have to work nights, weekends, or holidays anymore! ! ! ! It all starts in two weeks. The countdown is on. I am thrilled. :)

I'm starting at the bottom--shelving and holds and basic admin/operational stuff. I used to do a similar job at a university library in New Zealand, and I enjoyed it, so the hope is that I enjoy this job too. I'm ready to have a job I actually like. After five-ish years of working several late nights every week, most weekends, and most holidays, I'm really excited to have a weekday, daytime job. And even if my schedule changes, the library isn't even open on Sundays or holidays! I'm looking forward to not talking to people all day long as well. It's completely exhausting for an introverted sort like me to be the cheerful customer service bot to hundreds of people all day every day. And I'm over being the one who has to talk to all the grumpy customers who are so rude to me and my staff. Rant over. :)

It's going to be SO much better! :) :) :)

lol, I hear that! We are open nights and weekends, Sundays included! And rude, upset patrons are the worst. But, sometimes it's the fault of a staff members, so you can't always fault the patron.

Shelving can be fun. I've found a lot of great books to read that way. :-) So it sounds like you've got a great thing lined up. Hooray!!!

1 - I get to take two whole days for semi-creative promo stuff...videos and teasers and snippets which are actually kind of fun to do.

2 - The SO is going to an author signing tonight and I get to stay home and have the house to myself. Woohoo!!!

3 - The SO signing up for a couple of classes in the fall. :-) (SEE ABOVE)

4 - Door Dash and Grub Hub. I've resorted to them too often over the past month, but wow! What a life saver.

5 - The furtive, slightly crazed look Marlowe gets when he's trying to hide a bone from me. :-D

Not as much as I anticipated. The dancing bits were the best part; the songs had some cute lines, but the melodies were nondescript. I couldn't hum any song afterward. And lastly, the actual plot, which I prefer not to describe, was not what I was expecting.

It turned out the best part of the evening was when we left the play. The weather was great that evening. We were on 49th St. at the northern end of Times Square. This was my friend's first time in Manhattan; he was blown away by the enormity of what he saw. And I was thrilled to experience it through his eyes.

It's about 50/50 currently. :)
I'm so ready to leave this industry. In retail, you see humanity at its worst every day--people steal from me every day and that's depressing, but the really disheartening part is how my staff are treated like garbage every day. It's as if we are somehow lesser because we work in retail. I'm pretty down on it all, so it's good I'm leaving. :)

Some days I just want to go home and listen to Victor Bayne's favourite song. I don't remember which book it is, but it made me laugh so much when I read that part. :)

I’m not surprised. I think people are looking down on those who didn’t go to college. There’s such a push for college these days, even though it’s not for everyone, and there are good jobs without a degree. And then they see someone in a job they know doesn’t require one, and you’re immediately beneath them. Plus, materialism breeds the bad in people. Ugh.

Ugh is right.

I think a true test of someone's better nature -- and breeding (as archaic as that sounds) is how they treat the people who wait on them, serve them.

If you're the kind of person who A - thinks you're "better" than someone because they're working a job you consider menial, and B - thinks that being "better" means you get to treat anyone with anything but courtesy is a reflection on you, not them.

Anne | 6816 comments A lovely Sunday morning. I got to «talk» with my grandson on video while he had his breakfast. I spent the rest of the morning on my balcony reading «Footsteps in the dark» specifically Dal Maclean’s lovely story. Then suddenly some very unexpected beauty; I live close to a church and is used to hear the church bells on a Sunday, but this time someone talented actually played a lovely little melody on the church bells. It was probably a hymn, and it was remarkably beautiful and serene. I had to close my eyes and just enjoy.
