Back

Helsinki field trip with the 8th graders went surprisingly well except I was struggling with the head cold, heavily medicated. I somehow managed to get myself through last week at work, but this week I've been forced to take some sick leave. Today is the first day after a week and a half that I'm starting to feel like myself again. I think I have hope? Luckily I'm still able to rest tomorrow before going back to work on Friday. And then it's back to Helsinki for three days on Monday with the 9th graders... :-D

We have an unseasonal heat wave, unusual for this time of the year not to mention this being Norway, but very lovely. Today I rode my bike to the beach and dipped in the ocean. Very refreshing and not something that happens every year. :)

Sleep.

Two nights in a row with Marlowe the Mutt waking up at the sound of firecrackers (at three in the morning!) and being too nervous and upset to go back to sleep. Which means nobody is getting sleep...

I really, really hope it doesn't take him all the way to July 4th to get used to the antics of the, er, locals. :-/

That's the way it is here. My idiotic neighbors set off fireworks at all times before and after the 4th. Last weekend, They decided to set them off just as I was trying to fall asleep, hoping to sleep off a sore throat. Adrien was very unhappy. I didn't sleep well. Thankfully, no fireworks again since, but it won't be long before they come back.

My coworker keeps telling me to call the cops. But that won't do any good. These guys have been doing this for years, since before I moved in. Also, I can't tell where they're coming from. I live next to "the projects" which is a maze-like complex that keeps everything hidden within it. So, yeah. We just have to tough it out.

Swashbuckling

A new word I learned today while reading Object of Desire. Doesn't that word sound exactly what it means? :-D

I'm having a Patti Smith's day in preparation of her concert this evening in Zurich. I had seen her in Bologna in September 1979 (!), together with other 50 000 persons ;-).

I hope she will sing People Have The Power, together with other classics.

Honestly, calling the cops just makes a bad situation worse, because inevitably (at least in my experience) the cops point out the neighbors who made the call.

Exactly. That too. Which is not what we need in the neighborhood where I live.

I think my sleep is getting better! Though last night I dreamed I sold my bike, which I don’t understand. I might not use it more than once a year, but in an emergency situation, it’s my ticket out of the city! Lol.

I'm glad the sleep situation is improving. Nothing will make you crazier faster than not getting enough sleep.

I too had a very weird dream last night. I dreampt I was trying to solve some kind of robbery. But that's not the weird part. The weird part is I was in some kind of Lilliputian world! The coloring in my dream even got sort of cartoon-like.

I think there was a scene in the Infinity War that triggered my memories of a cartoon about Gulliver's Travels I saw when I was small. That's the only thing I can imagine for such a bizarre dream. :-D

Reading. (at work!)

Have to read 11 YA and middle grade novel proposals for work. I get to be a voter for our new write-in-residence next year. So far, the first chapters are interesting. But there are still eight more to go.

lol, that's how I feel when watching any sport except Tennis. Unless I can be chatting with friends and only half paying attention to the game. I've done that with a hockey game recently and it was okay. Otherwise, I'm not a sports fan at all.
