Oh. That's interesting! (And especially interesting is the fact that a salad without corn is called corn salad in English. LOL.)

Center.

The last few days have been up and down, lots of stress and lots of challenges, but this afternoon--finally--things seem to be falling back to normalcy.

CookieCrawl.

The library is doing the annual Cookie Crawl today! And for the first time I can participate. :-) Basically, each department that wants to participate, bakes or brings in cookies to share, and you walk around the library to various departments and eat cookies or take them home to share. Some people have been known to make hot drinks, or even egg rolls. And the decorating. Our parent department, Collection Development, is going all out complete with a fake tree with books under it, to a really cool fake fire place, and a paper snowflake ornament making station for the tree. I'm super excited!

OMG, it really was! I got two LARGE tupperware containers full of cookies, cakes, candies... and learned about different ways to walk around the building in places I've never been before. Yeah, we're that big. :-)

This sounds like great fun, and I love the thought of finding new places in a big building (kind of like Percy's museum in the Whyborne and Griffin books). :)

I hardly ever lunch with my colleagues, opting for a half-hour of quiet after a morning with 30 energetic kiddos. But yesterday we had a pre-class day breakfast, a celebration of a colleague's soon-to-be new baby. It was nice — enjoying and complimenting the frittata one teacher made, with coffee, and a bit of non-work-related adult conversation.

I used to eat alone. I do prefer it. I get lots of reading, or writing, done in that hour. But in the last year or two Ive been having lunch most days with our head carpenter, which is a lot of fun. He likes to tell stories, and we have great conversations, though I do miss my reading time. Lol. But he does get my sense of humor, which is always a good thing.

I can relate to this. I really don't have lunch breaks with colleagues, so when I occasionally end up sitting around a table with them for one reason or another, that always feels special and precious.

Friend

Met one of my best childhood friends today when she was visiting Oulu. I think it's about ten years time since we last met. It was so nice to pick up the conversation from where we left the last time. It felt quite familiar and easy.

I'm planning on posting about it in my GR blog when it starts. :-) I'll try to remember to post here too. Though I should clarify, It's an experiment, since I'm going to post it in vignettes, and I'm not entirely sure where it's going to go, or how long it will end up being. It's a story that's been in my mind for awhile.

Center

I am working on staying centered for the next couple of weeks. Basically all the holiday stuff is as ready as its going to get. Now I just have to finish all the writing projects and concentrate on feeling the spirit of the holiday (as opposed to grimly ticking things off a long list). :-D
