It was my last day at work a few days ago, so that's a very weird feeling. But I'll be working away at a different job come tomorrow--packing up!

Indeed. Those are two excellent words for it. :)

Tomorrow is December 1 and traditionally people hang advent stars in their windows and put advent lights up. Now days many also decorate trees in the garden and balconies with lights. It is such comfort when days are short and nights are long, cold and dark.
And Sunday is the first Sunday of advent and we light one candle.

At the thought of this tax bill passing--which it looks like it will.
The only glimmer of comfort is that the people it will hurt the most are Trump's True Believers. But that's not much comfort given that it will also hit many people who did not vote for Trump and cannot afford to subsidize the donor class.

Today is 1 December, the official first day of summer in NZ. I didn't know this before I lived in NZ and did some investigating, but there are two ways of defining seasons--astronomical, which is based on solstices and equinoxes and relative positions of things in space, and meteorological, which uses a fixed date that corresponds more closely to seasonal temperatures, like 1 December-28 February denoting summer in the Southern Hemisphere. Both systems are popular internationally and many countries have different ways of doing it. I grew up in America and I'm very set in my equinox-and-solstice ways, but New Zealand is very firm in its devotion to the meteorological way, as are many other countries. I found it very interesting, so I thought I'd share. :)

It’s so awesome that in your part of the world this date starts the summer, and here it starts the Christmas traditions and it really feels like winter :)

Yes. It is also a reminder that seasons will keep changing, and I really don't need to mope about the cold ;-).
Ribbons (and bows)! ;-D
My holiday shopping is now officially halfway done. Of course most of it still has to be wrapped. :-D

I love this time of the year! :)
Wreath.
I found a wreath in the trash room last night. I believe it was on a door down the hall when I got home, and then it wasn’t. Must be the same one. Right? Well. It didn’t feel right to let it get tossed with the garbage, so I brought it home, hung it on the inside of my front door, added rainbow ribbons, and now my entryway smells great!

My own gift wrapping has to start soon too! I have everything except some stocking stuffers. I like to give out homemade granola in my really nice honey jars, which I’ll made last minute. :-)

The moon was so big and bright last night. So beautiful. It's nice to think we're all looking at the same moon up there. :)

Tomorrow is Finland's 100th birthday. Which is pretty cool. :-)"
Happy anniversary to Finland and all her people!

The Norwegian word translated as «a parliament of crows», that strange phenomenon where a lot of crows suddenly congregates in a tree. I wonder why they do it and how they all know this is the tree to visit?

That word is awesome! It's one of those that you almost but not quite understand. I mean, I knew what a ting is before but Kråke sounds so much like their voices... like it and will try to remember it for the autumn days when lots of crows gather in a place called Raven Island very close by. :-)

After talking about how Rapunzel came by her name on Sunday I bought a bunch of those today. Yum. :-D

And obviously:
Buon compleanno, Finlandia!

Since they're always alone it has to be conspiracy if all of sudden you see a group of them. ;-)

LOL. I imagined you buying some sort of hair extensions, but the word "Yum" threw me off a bit. :-D Some sort of pastry, then, maybe?

Thank you for the 100th Birthday wishes, everyone! Today is national holiday here and lots of different kinds of celebrations going on. In a couple of hours hubby and I will be lighting two candles on every window, like we do on every December 6th. (Why two — one explanation is that it marked a safe place to stay overnight during the wartime. Some say the two candles simply remind us of "home and homeland".)
I also think it's so very touching that countries around the world will be lighting up their 50 iconic venues and buildings across the globe with blue and white lights (our flag colors) today to honor Finland’s centenary of independence. There are some impressive, legendary venues and buildings —like Colosseum in Italy, The Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil, Niagara Falls in Canada— in that list.
Here's the list if anyone is interested:

I love all the lighting of candles to celebrate the season, and also Finland's centennial. There's something so hopeful about candlelight.

Actually, it's a type of salad. ;) :D
KC found out that it's called corn salad in English. No corn involved though. Made up with sour cream dressing, it's a typical side dish if you have goose during Advent or on Christmas Day.
