The party was great! I was able to surprise them with a bunch of uncorrected proofs they could keep (as you can imagine, the library gets a lot of them from publishers), and the special cupcakes were fantastic!

Everyone wanted to keep in touch with each other afterward, which was great too. I'm super excited to run the class again in September. :-)

Lots and lots of it. I was supposed to go on a hike today with my twin who is currently vacationing in Oslo, but we decided to visit an art gallery later today in stead.

Enjoy art gallery visit with your sister, Anne! It's not actually raining here, but it's cloudy and greyish. I'm planning on mowing the lawn later today, so I really hope it won't start raining.

nightguard

Got my first night guard from the dentist yesterday. I actually didn't spit it out in the night, which I totally expected. Though I did dream that it broke apart into multiple pieces in my mouth while I was walking down the street. Yuck! But I woke up with it still in my mouth. I've obviously not slept well though, because I'm exhausted today!

I thought that something similar would be good for me, but I don't like the idea. Do you have any concrete symptoms of bruxism or you just want to get rid of it because it bothers you or might be bad in the long term?

Apparently, according to the dentist, I do have symptoms of bruxism. But also, in the past I have put teeth shaped ridges in my cheeks at night, which then hurt like hell for a week afterwards, making it hard to eat or brush my teeth. I don't seem to do it as often these days, but still, it's not something I'd like to repeat, and I'm hoping this will help with that too. I tried using my tae kwon do mouth guard at night once years ago and that was not a good experience. This one was much better since it takes up less space in my mouth. But... expensive. OMG. The price is crazy.

I'm glad that now it is better. I notice the _totally unmotivated_ tension, but the only consequence is that now and then my jaw makes a little noise when I open it. I used to be very embarrassed when this happened in public. Now I explain if it is noticeable.

Good idea to get the night guard from the dentist: even though it is expensive I suppose it is better. I wish you to sleep well tonight!

Jordan, hubby gives "thumbs up" for you and your nightguard. He's specialized in gnathology (bite physiology) and makes nightguards for several patients per week. Most patients get used to using their nightguard fairly easily. Hubby says that you just have to be persistent, and after a few nights the nightguard feels so right that you probably won't want to sleep without it.

He also has nightgurad himself — has had the last 15 years. And I have one too. It really helps me — especially when I'm stressed.

Thanks, Johanna! My own dentist and all of his staff have them too, apparently. I think this will work out considering I didn't spit it out in my sleep like the other one. And I like that it's not big and bulky. The hard part was that I work late on Tuesday nights, but then work early on Wednesday mornings. So my sleep was already botched. Add in a new night guard and I'm just exhausted. But maybe tonight will be better. :-)

Interesting. Well, I'm still getting used to wearing mine. I was so tired last night I forgot to put it in, and woke up in the middle of the night going, "Oh! I forgot. Is it too late?" And put it in, and dreamed strange dreams the rest of the night.

I love steam trains and there's a steam train festival happening in a nearby country town, so we're going to go have a fun day out. Like Anne, I could use a little distraction from the world and a big gorgeous steam locomotive is just the thing. :)

Anne | 6816 comments Hospital.

As in being in one since yesterday and probably for a day or two more. I had a strange episode at work yesterday where my eyesight got very wonky for a while and I generally felt under the weather. My colleagues took me to a doctor and from there I was sent to hospital. They are checking everything especially blood clots and small strokes. I'm feeling OK but bored. But I am grateful beyond belief for our public health service. I couldn't be in better hands.

And remains an optimist 😊
