The newborn birdies I couldn't see in the nest near my office window are so grown up that now and then I see their heads peering out. One even stayed for a while on the nest's edge flapping its wings. Much cuter than the parents, I have to say: nice whitish breast plumage whereas the parents have unglamorous grey-brown feathers.

The wedding was in Portuguese. The bride is from Brazil and that is where the wedding was held. The bride and groom will be making their home outside of Albuquerque here in NM. They met in high school when Marcela was an exchange student.

Thank you for explaining. How romantic that they met in high school...

So the wedding had even the bonus of a trip to Brazil ;-))

It's cool and gray and breezy today. A welcome relief from the unending days of triple digits. It's a nice day for catching up on a lot of the businessy stuff.

I've been to cinema a lot lately and enjoy it very much. Experiencing a film on the big screen is such a different thing compared to TV or even laptop screen.
So far I've seen this month: The Beguiled, The Mummy, Pirates of the Caribbean, Valerian and the new Spiderman.

That's so true about the experience. One of my closest theaters recently underwent a renovation so that the seats are reclining leather with a movable tray table and wide arm rests. Such an amazing experience! And a comfortable one!

Condolences, hugs, and empathy.

My family experienced a similar loss two years ago this summer. My younger daughter was his best friend. He lived with us for awhile and our home served as his permanent address, so the police came here first. We'll never get over it, but the aching part of grief has subsided over time.

Oh how terribly sad. I'm sending warm hugs.

ETA: Every time I hear news like this (and it's been too many times lately) I'm crushed with the fact what a waste of young life it is. I so wish our world was a friendlier place to be.

Party!

My 8-week writing class ends today so I'm throwing the students a mini celebration with cupcakes and lemonade. :-) Of course, today's the day I don't feel 100% great. :-( And because I wanted fancy cupcakes, I have to walk a few blocks to go pick them up. lol. But hey, at least they'll be GOOD cupcakes, and not the cheap ones from the grocery store. :-)

Antonella | 11571 comments Rescue!

I was very worried for the last of the siblings who left the nest: he spent all day long yesterday alone on a branch, because it was stuck there. Today I tried to put food nearby to no avail. Then a friend helped me to lounge out of the 1st floor window, reach the birdie with a gloved hand - to avoid contamination with human smell - and untangle it. After a slow tumble down, it sat on a higher ledge. A parent was hovering there. Shortly later we went outside: he wasn't there anymore, and there were no cats licking their lips, so I suppose there is one bird more around ;-).

Maybe it was a Garden Warbler (Sylvia borin).

Anne | 6816 comments I am back from my road trip in the US and Canada and slowly my body and brain adjust to European time again.

I have missed you all, congratulations to birthdays and weddings and my condolences Mymymble, such a tragic waste of a young life.

My trip was wonderful, there are so much to see, so many wonderful people to talk to, so many strange and beautiful little places :).

One wonderful thing about staying in small bed and breakfast inns are the lovely conversations around the breakfast table with complete strangers.

Later today I'm picking up my daughter who will stay here for a week, until then I'm enjoying a lazy vacation day just reading.

We'll be having neighbors from the four nearest houses coming over for a BBQ this evening. Always interesting to see how that goes. ;-) We've had a get-together like this once before -- maybe three years ago? -- and it was joyful.
