Thanks, it was hubby's grandpa's funeral yesterday. Today was much happier day, due to the Mother's Day.

Not even too much and I'm not unhappy about it: workers are here for two days to substitute my _8_ leaking skylights with new ones. No more trips upstairs to check the situation in case of heavy rain!

Does that mean we get a walnut pie?

message 10660: by Antonella (new)

Antonella | 11571 comments I'm glad about Mymymble's walnut tree.

Just yesterday I bought a delicious organic walnut pie, typical of the Swiss mountain region of Graubunden and I thought I should give you the recipe.

It is my second favourite thing in the world after chocolate and chocolate cake ;-).

The rain, that is. It's been a bit wild outside the past few days. I'm glad it's Saturday and I can stay home where it's warm and dry and quiet and read! :)

Me, that is. :-) I survived (and so did the students!) our field trip to Helsinki, but I ended up sleeping 14 hours in a row last night after we arrived back to Oulu.

Glad to hear everyone (including the students) made it home safely and in one piece. :-)

Sounds like you needed that sleep. Wow.

...and they have to be adults to even have nuts! We didn't know that and thought that ours just isn't a nut-producing kind. But! Last year it came through with lots and lots of walnuts. :-D

The Hidden Life of Trees explains why they sometime have lots of seeds and sometimes don't. It also explains why single trees grow short and fat and die young compared to those in a forest.

It's not for everyone, that's for sure. It is arguably my favourite pie, however. :)

I made a pecan pie for xmas dinner a couple of years ago (in NZ) and folk were not overly excited about it. Perhaps it is an acquired taste. Some of my NZ relations found it too rich and too sweet. Dessert pies are not a big thing here, though, to start with, and I'm that strange foreigner who always makes pies for dessert. I grew up in Texas (where the pecan is the state tree :) ) and we would go out and collect pecans by the bagful every autumn, and my dad enjoyed baking, so we would have pecan pies through the winter. That combination of nuts and bourbon and butter and sugar is just so perfect to me. :)

mini-flood

Left the hose running in the pond to "top off." It topped over and I spent the last hour trying to rescue as many tadpoles and minnows as I could spot in the lawn. Really should set a timer. : (
