That's my problem, too! I can't stop the thoughts in my mind. When I try to focus on nicer things, works that's only for minutes. To change the scenery would be good, but I am often to tired to do that. I have today only a eight hour workday, perhaps tomorrow and Monday (holiday in Germany) I find it in me to do something beautiful and not only to sleep and to worry. I have thought I would be tougher.

Reading a story aloud can help for a bit or at least improve your mood. At least for that time you're reading and concentrating, it takes your mind off other things, and so you get to relax a bit.

Things like that are hard. It might sound weird, but when I need a change in mood I always find a really good exciting movie to watch. For me, that's something like Honey (Jessica Alba stars as a dance coordinator who needs to raise enough money to buy a storefront to use as a dance studio in NYC.) or something like How to Train Your Dragon with kids overcoming odds and saving the day with dragons. Basically, anything with really good music and people that overcome issues.

Otherwise, maybe listen to a comfort read while knitting? That might help too.

*hugs*

Maybe you want to try meditating? There are nice videos on youtube that guide you through relexation routines with nice music in the background and pleasant voices.

Thinking of you, Sabine. Hugs. :)

I find physical activity to be really good for turning my brain off and also just plain old stress relief. Going for a walk or doing some kind of exercise works really well for me. One of my favourite things to do is cranking up the stereo really loud and dancing in my living room. Shutting the curtains and rocking out to good music by myself for half an hour always makes me feel good and clears my head.

(I kept telling myself and everybody that to see more than one film per day it too much for me, but today there was a kind of festival, I saw three movies and I'm not traumatised ;-).

It was a glorious warm sunny spring day yesterday and I sat out on the deck all afternoon (barefoot!) and basked in the sunshine and did some drawing and had a gin and tonic (or two). The first times going barefoot in the spring are always so exciting and momentous. Look, no socks! :)

Alison | 4756 comments Green!

It's that week in the spring where suddenly everything is green and the trees are growing. It always seems to happen so quickly. There are no leaves... and then wow, suddenly there's lots of fluoro green trees all over. I love this time of year.

lol. Actually, I'm wanting to gift most of them to someone very soon, and I'm irritated that books 6 & 7 have been released over here and book 1 will come out next year. Yet, they've all been re-released this year in the UK. *eyeroll*

You are correct! Hopefully for my mom. I just borrowed the first one from the library, thankfully we do have that one, so I can read a bit and determine if I think she'll like it.

Amazon won't let me buy ebooks, otherwise I would have ordered the next book in the Peter Grant series in ebook. Have to order that in hardcover, unfortunately, but the price does even out, and Amazon seems good with the shipping overseas and prices. They claim if the taxes and whatnot costs less they will refund me and if it costs more they won't charge me. :-)

I was thinking that should be my word for today :). My daughter went back to UK yesterday after staying with me for two weeks. It was so nice having her for so long, more relaxing than the usual 4-5 days she usually have time for.

Now I'm by myself, which is also nice even if I miss her company a little. But of course she must back to her life. It helped me settling in and to feel at home in my new flat, though even when the walls are still bare and the books in boxes :)

cross-referencing!!!

Yes, apparently I might be very late to the game here on GR, but in planning a GR workshop, I found the "select multiple" button for choosing bookshelves to look at and discovered that the option I've been wishing were real, is! I can finally cross reference my shelves!!! My life has just been made easier!

Though, I did have to lodge a complaint that a friend of mine can have a different gender other than male or female and I can still only have one or the other on GR. Major problem with that.

But still. Cross referencing!!!

Dodged the Super Storm. After days and days of preparation, the storm took a different track, thank goodness. Yes, the PNW is getting lots and lots of rain, but we need it. A lot of our houses here are all-electric, so if we're without power for any length of time, we're totally hosed. No heat, no hot water; no way to cook, charge gadgets; no WiFi, and OMG, NO COFFEE!

It never fails to surprise (amuse?) me how folks can bitch when the horrible weather forecast doesn't live up to expectations. Would they prefer no warning at all? http://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-n...
