So many of these kinds of votes (the support for Trump, for example) really do seem to be more about an expression of anger and frustration than genuine support for the idea or the man.
It's this collective UP YOURS!
It's like political venting...by people who don't fully grasp the consequences.

Yes.
The anti-other element is the underbelly of the Trump campaign. Even understanding that there is historical precedent for any society blaming "outsiders" for all their problems...it's really depressing.
Do we learn nothing?
That was a rhetorical question.

This is what really gets me about people who voted to leave the EU "as a protest" or "Oh, I didn't realise it really meant that".
And now one by one all the Leave lies are crawling out of the closet (mixed metaphors):
- No, the fishing industry can't just catch what it wants to willy-nilly.
- No, there isn't a magic £350m per week suddenly available for the National Health Service.
- In fact many of the things you don't like are Conservative Government policies and not EU ones.
- No, the "immigrants" you don't like are not from the EU but are actually genuine refugees whose right of entry is governed mainly by international law and conventions.
Of course these points were made before the vote, but the Leave politicians just kept repeating the lies knowingly and regardless. If it wasn't so serious it would be funny to see them running round now like headless chickens; they never expected to win and don't have a plan of any sort. No one wants to be the person who negotiates the exit from the EU; it's a truly no-win situation.
I think if we held the vote again tomorrow we'd get a different result. But in the meantime irreparable harm has been done.

It's horrifying. I'm so sorry for you and all my friends in the UK.
But it's also horrifying because I kind of thought it was unthinkable. Like I kind of continue to think a Trump presidency is unthinkable.
And now I know that nothing is unthinkable.

There were lots of articles marking the similarities between Trump's campaign and Brexit campaign...

Bored sounds good for me :-D. I live in exciting times at the moment. On my workplace times fly, twelve hours feel like six. But I hate boredom generally. I hope you are now free.
Lol. It felt wrong to say I was actually bored. I eventually got rid of it by weeding our books on CD collection late in the afternoon.

I'ma few days late, but I wanted to tell you congratulations, Jordan. That's really cool. I will cross my fingers for you. Hope it goes well. :)
Fireworks
Very pretty but very scary too.
I'm pretty sure it's illegal to set off random fireworks in the city, but people in my neighborhood have been doing it all week! Even more so tonight, of course. I told Adrien we'd go out early to miss the bulk of them, but I got caught up in my book and we got out late. This was not a walk she enjoyed, much as she'd demanded to be on it. Now we're home with the windows shut, shades drawn down and curtains pulled across. I hate waking up without any light to indicate it's dawn, but if it helps Adrien not hear them, then that's what we do. With windows shut we now have the ac on. I've just got to find the right setting so I don't freeze to death in my sleep! (There's no thermostat in the bedroom so it keeps blasting cold air in there until the larger livingroom eventually reaches the right temp.)

Oh, fun... mine would be Urheberrecht = copyright law. ;)

I think it went pretty well. I'm crossing my fingers. I know I flubbed a few things, and forgot a few things I should have mentioned. Doesn't everybody?

Everybody does. I'm sure you were fine. We typically remember the things we forgot or fubbed as you say, whereas the interviewer sees and remembers also the good parts, of which there were far more than bad ones, I'm certain.

Perfect is the enemy of good ;-)

Well done, Jordan. Fingers crossed. I don't think interviews are easy for anybody, so good job. :)

We had an impressive display 4th of July. I think they were probably mostly illegal, but very pretty. :-D

Sometimes the flubs are the best part of an interview. :-)

Rumors
The rumor mill is hard at work here and I've had several staff members whisper in my ear that they heard I'd interviewed for the job and wishing me luck. One of my references said things look promising. I'm crossing my fingers.
The new job would have me working with adults, recommending books. I taught one of my interviewers yesterday about MM! We are gaining more of an mm Ebook collection, but it's still not enough in my opinion and I am hoping this position would allow me to order more books for it. Right now the librarian who orders het romance will order mm whenever she can, but it's not a regular thing and it needs to be. Anyway, it's been a rough day and I'm blabbering.

Thanks guys.
Another reason I may get the job, aside from the fact that I'm the more senior candidate, is that I have a strong interest in creative writing, that no other staff member has. That explains so much of our library programming! It also makes me nervous because all of our creative writing workshops will come through me and I can only hope I'm up to the job, knowing my crippling doubt about my own work and the fact that I'm not published yet. That said, I still love writing.

Grandopening
This will be tomorrow's word, but I'll be too busy working with the public and getting my picture taken at the ribbon cutting ceremony to be able to comment here. Lol. I'm wicked excited and unhappy because technically were not ready for this yet. There are still some construction things that need to be done. *shrugs* hopefully people won't notice what's not been finished and won't be too upset.
Today we got to hear a speech by our new library president and the mayor which was very nice, I must say. They both made me feel good about the place I work. And it helped, probably, that some people had the day off and couldn't be there. Lol.

I don't know if we're getting more violent, but we do seem to be more inarticulate. Meaning, for all the social media and all the ceaseless babble, more and more people seem to have trouble actually talking face-to-face. Especially when they are not in agreement. The ability to debate ideas without everything becoming personal seems to be dwindling.
It's genuinely worrying.
