American election campaigning is so wild and dramatic. Campaigning is highly regulated in NZ, and quite quiet in comparison. It can only happen in a small window of time before election day (maybe two months?) and each party is allocated a certain amount of money by the government and that's all they can use to campaign and private money is not allowed. In the last general election (2014), it was a little over a million dollars per party, and there are seven parties in Parliament right now. I quite like how it's concentrated into such a short period of time. So it's a really big deal for a couple of months and then not the rest of the time, because it isn't allowed. Campaigning in America seems to be almost continuous these days.

Me too. Always. :)

I want this system! It really seems possible that the best person the the job might well be elected, that way.
I agree HJ! That sounds delightful! I hate our politics with a passion. I have better things to do with my time than watch annoying people I often don't like yell at each other and tell lies about each other. It's despicable and ridiculous. And the fact that it goes on for so long means I tune out. Entirely. I just can't deal with it. Sorry to say.
NZ sounds like they know how to do it right.

forgot
(I can't believe, in my hast to get to work this afternoon, I forgot to leave the radio on for Adrien. I hope she doesn't continue to cry all afternoon while I'm gone!)

I don't live in America and I was tired of hearing about the election last year! :) Politics in NZ certainly lacks the drama it has in other places, which I am all in favour of. Parliament mostly just gets on with it in a quietly progressive and sensible way. Most MPs actually seem like real, genuine people who care and do their job. HJ, I don't know about the best person always being elected ;), but I don't think you can be a politician in NZ without actually really wanting to do the actual work and being held accountable for it, which is something.

I could go for quiet and regulated.
I am also weary of the only news being what outrageous thing Trump has said now. Months and months to go until November. It is going to be a very long summer.

Mondaywork ... please save me!
In one hour I get to finally go home, curl up with a good book in front of the fireplace, and eat pudding. And see the dog. I've been wanting to do this ALL day. I hate Mondays. especially the one after a vacation, when it's cold and rainy out, and I'm tired and miserable. And would rather be anywhere but where I am. *sigh*

At the moment my feelings for the blackbird are less warm than before: I found out that the main building material for the nest was my moss, the garden is full of holes...

Surely someone out there can give us a winter? :)
Cool and grey here, with a lovely golden tree outside my window.

I simply like that word. Also, now when I've finally set up the final art exhibition for the semester and the opening night is successfully over, I feel like it's the end of a yet another era and the beginning of a new one. The laborious, stressful first work months of the year are over and I'm carefully learning to breath slowly again.
Oh, obviously I still have all the student evaluation ahead of me, but let's not remember that quite yet... :-D
