Lol, nope, I'm here!
Adrien is settling in, if slowly. She's following me EVERYWHERE. I've never had a dog willingly go into the bathroom, much less when I was busy there! But she needs to be able to see me, or she gets a little upset. We're going to be working on Separation anxiety tomorrow. I went out for about 30 minutes today and I think she settled quickly after a little cry, thankfully.
She startles easily at sudden loud noises and tries to back out of her collar and escape, so I needed to get her a harness. I didn't want to take her with me because the street is nothing but loud noises and she's had enough startles today so I had to leave her home.
But, I also picked up a jar of peanut butter while I was out, so I can hopefully teach her how to play with her new toys tomorrow. She's good with stairs, but not toys...yet.
Otherwise, she's very chill. She hasn't chewed anything yet and only really begs for her own dinner, not mine. Now, if only we could fix her gastrointestinal issues!
So, yeah, we're busy. Oh, and the adoption group supposedly posted our picture on their Facebook page yesterday. When I'm on a real computer I'll post a pic here. Or, I'll be posting some pics soon to my Instagram feed @qotu33.
:-)

Dear Josephine, I'm sorry you had such a frightening experience.
Is such an event absolutely rare in the place where you live or something that can happen?

I definitely feel a lot better today. Meaning I was able to sleep. Long, long sleep. Lol.
@Antonella, thank you! Yes, it's not unheard of, but so far none of my friends suffered from something like this, so yeah, I guess it's rare? I hope.

Oh. My. God. That's terrible, Josephine. Did anyone catch the people who did this to you?
And I'm obviously relieved that you and your family is unharmed. Big hugs coming your way!

@Johanna, hugging back. Thank you! I could really use a lot of hugs these days. Prayers, too. (view spoiler)

Hi, Josh! Yeah! :( I thought I already experienced it all but this incident proved me wrong. The truth is, I thought I was already without fear. But then again, situations such as this one that teaches us how we stand to lose the people we love at any given moment, then we do learn fear.

Dear Josephine, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you so much, Judy! :)

As a Democrat I feel relatively calm for the first time in...almost ever. Because I love Bernie, I like Hillary...and I just can't believe the country will elect either Trump or Cruz.
Now I could be wrong...I have been wrong before...but I am enjoying this unnatural calm in an election cycle.

I share the feeling. Still, already the fact that Trump or Cruz are seen as possible candidates is _very_ worrying for the whole world.

I imagine so.
It's pretty...perplexing. To put it mildly.
I read something a few weeks back that said a poll found Hillary Clinton slightly more trustworthy than Donald Trump, and I'm still flabbergasted.
SLIGHTLY more trustworthy?!
I understand that people are frustrated, disenfranchised, cynical...angry. I understand wanting to elect someone who will not go along with the status quo. But. But. But.
And a worrying sign to me is that we are getting more and more polarized as a country. Conservatives are getting more conservative. Liberals are getting more liberal.
Where is our middle ground? It's not possible to thrive without a middle ground.

Granted, I still have a couple of friends who believe Hillary and Bill got away with murder -- literally -- back in the day. So...yeah.

I think maybe BRAVO that I've managed to maintain a friendship with my loony-but-otherwise-charming friends. ;-)

Yesterday I went to hear a panel about the political situation in the USA and although both panelists refused to make prognosis, they said that there could be for the first time in history a situation in which the Republican split. Which would be great ;-).
I knew one of the people talking and I found out that he has a double citizenship, because his father lived a long time in the US (a very interesting story). The other panelist looked familiar and when we talked we remembered why: we went out once to drink something with a mutual friend, another philosophy teacher, after a conference. As we talked a woman asked me where did I go to university and we found out she is also Italian, she just arrived here to work as teaching assistant for the fellow I know, so we spent half an hour talking. I like this kind of intertwinings ;-).

The one thing that gives me hope is that I do truly believe most people have good intentions. Most people mean well. It's why they jump into freezing water to save strangers. Never mind strangers...to save animals.
But we are an increasingly uninformed and uneducated populace. And, frankly, social media--which is all about emotional and instant response--is making it worse, not better.

There is a middle ground, but it covered by third party candidates. They don't always have access to the ballot in all 50 states and DC. I think this year, the third party candidates have an excellent chance to make a good showing this year, which maybe will wake up the Dems and Rep that they are not representing the people anymore.

The kidlings are all pro Sanders. For two of them this will be their first voting election. It's reassuring to see such conviction and optimism.

It's always a little disheartening to see so many qualified -- even brilliant people -- unable to compete simply because of the lack of finances. Sanders is right about campaign funding reform. It's actually key to genuine Democracy.

In the UK we have a strict upper limit on the amount which can be spent by each candidate, and it's not very much either. Also we have rules which ensure even coverage of candidates by the media. It does level out the playing field.
I am both astonished and appalled at the amount of money which is spent (not to say wasted) on US political campaigns, and the tacit acceptance that you have to be rich or have rich friends to get elected. And surely the rich friends expect some benefit in return, eventually?

In Finland we don't have the upper limit for the amount being spend by each candidate, but the candidates have to publicly present the amount they spent and where the money came from.
