The Best Thing About Today...

I just learned that a woman I used to work with many years ago is dead. I don't feel grief exactly, we haven't spoken for years, but certainly sadness and not least, gratitude for my own life and health. She was much younger than me, not yet fifty, so it is far too early.
It gives me pause and a reason to be thoughtful and thankful.

So sorry to hear about this, Anne.
And yes — we rarely remember to be thankful for our health before something goes wrong with it.
In fact, isn't it weird that something bad like this has to happen before we pause to appreciate what we have? Because what you posted sounds very familiar. There are so many, precious things in life I take for granted and so many, insignificant things I whine about every day.
Thank you for your reminder, Anne.

My word today is:
Friendship :)

I don't think that any of us should exercise censure. Sometimes we are happy, sometimes in a more somber mood. Other people here can share the positive feelings and help to elaborate the negative ones.
BTW death would have been also my word, because C. Anthony Martignetti died of leukemia, and I followed his last few days though the words of his friends Amanda Palmer and Neil Gaiman. The whole thing was sad, only after he died I managed to see something positive.

The progress of opinion change in the last decade has been amazing. Hoping this is a sign of our future direction.

Absolutely! Appreciation to those who went before, fighting the good fight, hoping against hope that they could live to see the day that they could legally marry the one they love.
Love is love. So simple, so profound. Sniffling now, so I'll shut up and go away.

Watching the NHL Draft, Nats baseball game and USA-China Women's World Cup game (Go USA!), plus reading draft blogs and twitter and tumblr for #LoveWins & #MarriageEquality. And enjoying a cold beer. ;-)

Thanks guys. New pics have been posted this morning. They look so professional, I'm amazed I did them. Decided to do another one the same color.
Today's word: sanding
This third bookcase has annoying glossy paint on it. I'm sanding my arms off with this one!
