Certain Celtic music makes me feel this. No Celtic blood, so certainly a case of Hiraeth. : )

And lots of tangos are exactly this. Immigrant longing, and longing for the past in the old neighborhoods of the less-affluent suburbs after moving to the big city.

Oh yes. You're absolutely right. I've never thought it that way! This is very interesting.

It's 30 years in my case, but I join you in feeling old too :-)
I went to a girls' school, so an evening with lots of women I disliked even when we were kids? No, I don't think so...

I'm looking forward to it, but it isn't until October. It was a fun class, both boys and girls, we had some very good times, so I really want to meet them. It's approximately 15 years since last time I met any of them, I live in another town.

Mine is in September, so there's time enough to get over my grumpy depressive phase and decide if I want to take a chance on the handful of girls I liked :-)

HS reunions are sooo not my thing. But then, socializing with people I was never great friends with is not much fun for this introvert. lol.

Have fun if you do decide to go though!

message 5587: by Kari (new)

Kari Gregg (karigregg) | 2083 comments I went to a HS reunion a few years back, but it was just an informal get-together. There was maybe 2 dozen people there? I hadn't seen most of them since I high-tailed it out of the county and was surprised how much fun it was to catch up. If schedules line up, I wouldn't mind going again...as long as Mr. Football isn't around. Gah, what a dick. Worse, a creepy dick. Ew.

Have fun, you reunion-goers!

I have never been to a reunion, mostly for geographical reasons, but maybe someday. Given I now live on the other side of the world, it seems pretty unlikely. My high school class had about eighty people, so we all knew each other fairly well and mostly had a very good time. A fair few of them have friended me on Facebook, so I kind of feel like I vaguely know what's going on with a lot of them. I haven't kept up with anybody from college, but I would still love to go back and visit the old alma mater someday.

message 5589: by Kari (new)

Kari Gregg (karigregg) | 2083 comments Only reason I went to the get-together was because of Facebook. There were around 80 of us too (86, to be exact) and some, I just don't care if I ever lay eyes on again. I mean, I don't want to set them on fire, nothing like that. Just didn't care to exchange hellos. Then, I started talking to a bunch of other hometown refugees on social media...Boy howdy, do we ever have a lot in common, even more so than when we were all still in the county. Like the culture shock upon exodus, learning to become a local somewhere else, operating without a family safety net...My college BFF, she and I are still friends, but not like with the old gang. They've lived it. They know.

I was very much a loner in HS. I had two good friends by the end and I do keep in touch with them. But that's it. I always had my nose in a book or was too busy writing fan fiction to care what everyone else was doing. Thus, I think it would be really weird and awkward to go back now.

I had an invite about five years ago for a reunion and I simply told them I was living out of state and couldn't go.

message 5591: by Varecia (new)

Varecia | 956 comments I understand you, Jordan. I think the being I talked the most to during HS years was my horse - and it did not attend class with me! :-)

Reunions — amusing the first evening... when the margarita fountain is flowing. I caught a bit of my 10th, 20th, and 40th HS reunions. Based on that I don't need to go back until the 80th. ; D

message 5593: by Kari (new)

Kari Gregg (karigregg) | 2083 comments LOL, there was a whole group of us miscreants in HS. 4 of us were thick as thieves, but probably 10 or 12 hung together the most? We were trouble, but not the boosting-cars kind of trouble. Strictly misdemeanors. And weird sh*t. If you wanted to get ripped and attempt a summoning over a grave in an haunted cemetery, we were definitely your peeps.
