Excerpt

Do you usually read excerpts at the end of a book such as free chapters from the sequel or from another book?
Does it bother you to re-read it again once you buy the original?

Last, as a writer, do you insert any your published book(s)?

I like excerpts, and use them myself.

I agree with Adam. I don't like to start an excerpt and switch to another book. I've already made up my mind at the end of the book whether I'd like to read more of the author's work. At that point, I'll either buy the other book or I won't. So the excerpt does nothing for me.

Depends what I'm reading, if it's a long series of books with ones to choose from next than sometimes it helps. I'm not going to use them myself, but it usually doesn't bother me to read them

Don't read excerpts if the new book looks like it's in a genre I am not interested in (that does happen). Don't carry on reading an excerpt if it is in anyway boring and doesn't catch my attention in the first sentence.

Always happy to take a look at titles and quick descriptions of other books the author has written however.

Yes. I've always loved this type of thing and I do it in every one of my books. I have a sneak preview of the next book in the series, if there is one, and another book of mine. I also have a short story collection, and I put previews of each full length work in the back of it, making it a cheap sampler of all my books.

Reviews and friends' suggestions hold more sway for me than excerpts though I read those as well.

Who doesn't like a free sample?
I'll read an excerpt from the next in the series if that's the case, or if it's from another book by the same author. I don't have a problem with reading it again if I buy the book - it's the same as downloading a sample on kindle and then buying it; you can skip the bit you'd read.

I put an excerpt in my book - it's the prologue to the second book - but I don't know if I'll necessarily do it again.

I enjoy reading excerpts at the end of a good book. It makes me eager to read the next installment and I don't mind re-reading it. I might include an excerpt when I release a book someday.
