stormhawk | 1184 comments The Last Witchfinder A Novel by James Morrow

The Last Witchfinder by James Morrow.

I've read several other of his books, enjoyed them.

I'm only a few clicks in at this point (Kindle reader!) but I'm fascinated, and think I will probably be comparing this book to Neal Stephenson's Quicksilver, as the two books have characters and timeline in common.

message 204: by Lynda (new)

Lynda I just finished Blue Bloods. Gave it 4 stars. Am going the read Masquerade tomorrow. I don't have the third one yet. I was surprised at how fast Blue Bloods went.

Jackie M | 452 comments I am reading Uglies by Scott Westerfeld.

message 206: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) i was going to read Uglies to see if it was good for my daughter to read. Let me know what you think, Jackie M!!

message 207: by Athira (new)

Athira (Reading on a Rainy Day) (readingonarainyday) Uglies is a great book. I liked it. It's written well too, not immaturish. And it has good moral take-aways regarding beauty, and individuality. I'd recommend that book, Elvia. You should try it!

message 208: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) Thanks, Aths! I'm trying to find books for my daughter that are more mature than the kids books she can get at our local library. I think a book with a message would be wonderful. It seems Scott Westerfeld is trying to do that. I also found Jerry Spinelli's Stargirl and Loser that might be good for her.

message 209: by Athira (new)

Athira (Reading on a Rainy Day) (readingonarainyday) I have not tried Stargirl and Loser, but yep, by all means, Uglies would be a good read for your daughter. It's definitely not a kids books, and it does come with a message, so it's a good one. Scott even posted a few questions on his site regarding the book's theme.

I will. How old is your daughter?

message 211: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) She's 10 yrs old. She reads at an 8th grade level though so I am not sure what is appropriate for that age lol. I haven't been that age in a long while and I wasn't a big reader then. :)

message 212: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 617 comments I recently read Uglies,Prettiesand Specials and thought they were excellent young adult books. Not a difficult read by any means, but definitely books that make you think.

Yep .. I second that ... I am myself reading Pretties right now. Found it great so far.

message 215: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) I'm reading Strange Brew right now...and so far I'm thinking wtf? Weird stories. I just finished the third one (Rachel Caine...interesting take on ressurection) and will hopefully finish the rest of them tonight. Then it's on to either Stray or Shadow Kiss (Vampire Academy, #3)... I'm leaning toward Stray since I have to turn it back in to the library sooner than Shadow Kiss. lol

message 216: by Lynda (new)

Lynda Well, I finished Masquerade and luckily I got Revalations in the mail this afternoon. However, since Masquerade ended in a cliffhanger, I have to wait for the 4th to be published. Then there are supposed to be 5 more after that.

Was it better than Blue Bloods? I bought Masquerade, but I didn't enjoy Blue Bloods as much as I thought I would, and now I am having trouble getting myself to read the 2nd book!

message 218: by Lynda (new)

Lynda I liked it better. I actually gave it 5 stars.

message 219: by Jackie M (new)

Jackie M | 452 comments In my opinion the Blue Bloods series gets better with each book.

Cindy Edwards (cmedwards) I just started reading Glass Houses (The Morganville Vampires, #1) by Rachel Caine. I am loving this book. I addicted to YA books.

message 224: by Cindy (new)

Cindy Edwards (cmedwards) My daughter is reading the 3rd one now and is just as into it as the 1st one. Just got through reading Blue Moon and looking forward to the next book in the immortal series, coming out in Feb.

I am so jealous of you right now! I haven't gotten mine from the library yet - I'm 17th on the hold list!!
Started Stray last nightStray. So far so GOOD. Only on page 84 of 618 or something so hopefully it stays good. Cats instead of wolves...nice.

Well the good thing is when the book is close to my area I get it before my time is supposed to be up...going to check the closest library right now! lol
Update: There are 22 libraries that hold this book in Ohio - once they are done "cataloging" I should get one fairly quickly...YAY ME :)

message 228: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 244 comments hahaha sneaky stuff.
im only on ch.3 but so far i like it. Anything with them sexy wolves in is good. hehe

message 229: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) omg I know...LOVE the wolves!!
It's going to be a beautiful day today so I told my boys were spending it outside...they'll be riding bikes and playing; I'll be reading Stray.
BTW, I skipped stories in the Strange Brew anthology. I couldn't get into them. I did like Patricia Briggs story though (is that part of a series I'm not aware of?) and Jim Butchers. Not sure I'm going to finish the rest.

message 230: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 617 comments Just finished The Girl Who Played With Fire. It was wonderfully thought provoking and intriguing, while still being a page turning mystery.

I can't wait for The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest to come out in the States!

message 231: by Lynda (new)

Lynda I finished Revelations this afternoon. Gave it 4 stars. I am going to start American Gods by Neil Gaiman.

message 232: by Kristina (new)

Kristina | 778 comments Ooh, American Gods was my first Neil Gaiman (besides Bad Omens w/ Terry Pratchett). That got me hooked! Good choice.

I can't wait to read "Fire!" I bought it the day it came out but I had some other books I wanted to get through first! Don't tell me details but how amazing was it??? I loved "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo!" The characters were all so amazing! I couldn't put that book down!

SoBeA (sobe1982) | 39 comments I attempted to read Sharon Sala's The Healer last week but couldn't seem to get into it...
Instead, I've been on an Eve Dallas kick so I've just read Judgment in Death, then I followed that up with Betrayal in Death. Now I'm reading the short J.D Robb story in Out of this World and hope to follow that up with Dangerous Secrets by Lisa Marie Rice but we'll see :)

message 236: by Lynda (new)

Lynda I didn't even get into American Gods by Neil Gaiman when I received America's Most Wanted Recipes. I am reading that first. So far, I am disappointed.

[book:The Girl Who Played With Fire|6670459] was absolutely amazing! I bought it the day it came out and set every other book I was reading aside because I was so excited it for it and I most definitely was not disappointed!! This book delves into Lisbeth Salander, which is absolutely fascinating! Stieg Larsson is my favorite author of the moment!

Hope you enjoy it! :)

Jessica~CoinOperatedJoy | 82 comments Lisa Anne wrote: "Yes, Blomkvist plays a large role in this book too!

SPOILER ALERT! DON'T READ!

YAY!!!!!! I'm so glad. He was one of my favorite characters! His characters are so amazing! Especially LIsbeth! She kicks major ass! I love that she's so petite and yet has no fear. I'm five nothing and weight nothing...and my friends always make fun of my size. When I first read about Lisbeth I was sooo excited! I still have day dreams of kicking someone's ass thanks to that book. I loved the part where she saved Blomkivist! I re-read that part at least four times. SO GOOD!

message 244: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (shadowrose) I finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and now I'm starting on Warriors: Forest of Secrets by Erin Hunter.

I enjoyed The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo immensely. It ended up being the only book I wanted to read my entire trip to Virginia. I started maybe a day before and finished very early this morning (a day after).

Do you think you will read the second one? The Girl who played with Fire?

message 246: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) I will finish Stray tonight or tomorrow afternoon. After that it's a toss up between five other library books. I THINK it'll be Iron Kissed since it's due back the soonest.

message 247: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (shadowrose) Jessica - Yes I most definitely move on to the squeal when I get the chance to purchase it.

It's so good. I'm already counting down for October so I can buy The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest :)

SPOILER *****
Jessica, I loved the part where she saved him too! It almost never fails in a typical mystery there will be a guy saves the girl scene, no matter how kick ass she is and I loved that she saved him instead! I also kind of liked her revenge on Nils Bjurman (in a horribly screwed up kind of way) ... haha.

Spolier Alert!
I LOVED how she got her revenge on Nils! He deserved it! It was his rightful punishment: Eye for an eye. He made me so angry. And yes, it was SO refreshing to see her kick ass as opposed to her being the helpless victim needing to be saved. She's definitely MY hero! :)

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it!
