Yeah! Someone I can chat with about it! :) What part are you at?

message 103: by LaTrica (new)

LaTrica Began New Moon Book One of the Oran Trilogy yesterday and I'm having trouble getting into it. However, it seems to have potential so I'm hanging in there.

I am on p221 of This Duchess of Mine and the second chapter of the 1st book in the sookie stackhouse series...
So far, both are good!

message 107: by Ann (new)

Ann Noell (fantasyannie) I just finished My Heart Stood Sill by Lynn Kurland; charming, magical, romantic and funny, in a word Wonderful.

I'm now reading the Legend by Suzanne Robinson, it is for one of my July Challenges.

message 108: by BJ Rose (last edited Jul 17, 2009 12:46PM) (new)

BJ Rose (bjrose) | 360 comments Presently listening to one book and reading two others (I listen while I garden or work around the house so I'm basically always 'reading' something).

I'm on p.110 of Kite Runner and find I have to break the intensity for a while, so I'm also reading a cozy-mystery: Chocolate Chip Murder Mystery

Currently about halfway through Woman in White (audiobook). Wasn't sure at first that I'd like it, but after I finish reading the threads, I'm going to willingly do the ironing so I can continue my listening (it's too hot right now to work outside).

BK Blue (paradoxically) Ok... for some reason it keeps deleting most of my post when I publish it. >:(

message 111: by BK (new)

BK Blue (paradoxically) To Adrienne: Yes, I really enjoyed it. The characters were so good, it's hard to believe it was non-fiction. After "Midnight" I read "The Shadow of the Wind" and now I am working on "Brimstone".

message 115: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I just finished the Host by Stephenie Meyer. I'm a bit upset that it was SO long for how it all worked out. There were about 200 pages that were not necessary if you ask me! I enjoy here writing style so it went kind of fast when I had the time to read this week, but it was not so fantastic that I wanted 619 pages of it!

On to A Match Made in Hell by Terri Garey which promises me humor, romance, family scandals, ghosts, and mystery. Looking forward to a quick, fun read after the Host!

message 116: by Nona (new)

Nona (goodreadscomnona) | 102 comments I wondered about the Host it seemed it could be really good but I was disappointed in the last three Twilight books so never picked it up.

message 118: by Chrissy315 (new)

Chrissy315 Jones | 17 comments I'm reading Bone Crossed by Patricia Briggs. It's her most recent novel in her Mercedes Thompson series. Love her books.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic Finally found a futuristic erotic romance in my TBR pile. So I started The Empress' New Clothesby Jaid Black.

Ann Noell (fantasyannie) I'm now reading BloodFever by Karen Marie Moning.

message 123: by LaTrica (new)

LaTrica I finished New Moon and really liked it. Right now I'm reading Until Forever.

message 124: by southpaw285 (new)

southpaw285 I just finished up the Chicago Stars series by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. I will start a historical romance shortly, as well a biography on Jim Morrison...just to get a little break from romance.

message 125: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (shadowrose) I finished The Count of Monte Cristo last night and enjoyed it immensly. So I just started Exileby Kathryn Lasky, it's number 14 in the series and short so I know I can finish it quickly and head to the last book in the series.

I've been sooo tempted to pick up 'The Count of Monte Cristo', but have just never actually done it. Part of the problem is I've already seen one of the movies based on it and I hate it when I read the book after seeing the movie. The only reason I think I read
Memoirs of a Geisha was because I wanted to see the movie, but I had to read the book first. Not a bad book, still haven't seen the movie though.

Maybe I'll move 'The Count of Monte Cristo' up on my TBR list.

I understand, I haven't seen the movie of Count but I got to watch my other classmates read it in 10th grade and they loved it. So taking in the fact that the group that read it was full of non-readers I figured that it definitly had something I would enjoy. I just got around to it.
I don't like reading things after I've seen the movie either, but some I find that it actually makes better. For instance Lord of the Rings is wonderful no matter when you read it and you'll find that the movies compliment very well, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was amazing in written form and the voices from the movie kept playing in my head. So maybe this will be one of those for you, of course the movie is probably abridged like most versions of the book so if you want something different try the unabridged version (granted it's around 1200+ pages and the abridged is around 500+)

message 130: by new_user (new)

new_user I don't usually read books after the movie either because that's just like seeing the movie again, but I can tell you you're pretty safe with the Count. It's way different than the movie so it's like reading something unrelated.

message 131: by BJ Rose (new)

BJ Rose (bjrose) | 360 comments Just finished Darkfever and did not like it. So unless Ann writes a great review of Bloodfever, I doubt I'll be continuing this series (no pressure, Ann).

Continue to slowly work my way thru Yiddish Policemen's Union. If it weren't for the fact that I have this book in two challenges, I'd invoke my 100-page rule (I'm presently on p. 109), but I'm going to continue - there must be a reason why other people really liked it.

message 132: by SoBeA (new)

SoBeA (sobe1982) | 39 comments I finished Burning Wild by Feehan yesterday (which despite all the negative reviews I've read for it, is the only one of hers I've actually liked) and today I just read the last pages of an older HR, The Abduction of Julia by Karen Hawkins... Will probably read Dark and Deadly by Jeanne Adams next if I don't get distracted by anything else :)

When you finish, will you please let us know how you liked it? I've had it on my TBR pile for a few months now, but haven't gotten around to it yet :)

message 134: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I'm about 130 pages into Twenties Girl A Novel by Sophie Kinsella and I'm loving it. So, so funny. This is definitely going to be up there with her Can You Keep a Secret.

message 135: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) I'm reading Huntedright now and will soon start Blood Bound. I had to restart the Mercy books because I couldn't get into the first one before. I read it again and LOVED it. Now I can't wait to read book 2.

message 136: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Just finished Twenties Girl a bit ago. LOVED IT! I so did not want that book to end. I laughed so much, cried a bit and totally fell in love with all these characters. I love the way Sophie Kinsella writes because I can totally hear the characters talking in my head. All her books always makes me wish I could live in London! I highly recommend this!

Starting The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen. Finally got it from the library. I hate when books are over due and I'm waiting on them!

Unapologetic_Bookaholic Sobia:

A friend gave it to me for my birthday this year.

message 145: by Andrew (new)

Andrew | 5 comments I just started reading Shadow Kiss (Vampire Academy, #3). It's not bad so far.

message 146: by LaTrica (new)

LaTrica Will begin Trust Me today. I finished A Long Fatal Love Chase which was much better than I expected.

message 147: by Athira (new)

Athira (Reading on a Rainy Day) (readingonarainyday) I just finished The Host and found it good after all. A typical Stephenie Meyer novel. Happy endings. Not many broken hearts, in fact, very few. A drag once in a while, as she intensely describes certain scenes, but very mature and a good read still.

I will probably start with The Tenth Circle A Novel or In Cold Blood today.

message 148: by Elena (last edited Jul 26, 2009 12:29PM) (new)

Elena I am reading Outlander. Great story but as it is ussually the case with long books, it drags and drags on the same thing....I have heard that after you are past this first one, it gets a lot better.

I love this series. I do wish the books weren't so long though.
