Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Just finished the delightful The Armada Boy - Kate Ellis. Think I will now read Case Histories - Kate Atkinson for my next book as I have wanted to know what her books are like.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) It's hard to decide what to read next when you read a really good book, isn't it?

Usually is Danielle, but a friend and I promised each other we would read this book as I have book 2 and she has book 3 lol.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) That's good you have a reading plan. I am not good at reading stuff according to plans at all. That's why book clubs do't work well for me.

I don't belong to a Book Club, but do read some great books recommended by friends and find that is better than any book club in my opinion.

Any good?

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) Elric is pretty awesome. I just started Be Mine Tonight, and it's good so far. The Hand-Me Down Family is a bit slow but good. Same for Face in the Frost.

Cool, will have to check them out some time hon xx

Danielle/Fiona... I am intrigued to hear that you read (and not only yrselves) more than one book at a time. Does it not distract the one story from the other... if you know what I mean.

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Bev wrote: "Danielle/Fiona... I am intrigued to hear that you read (and not only yrselves) more than one book at a time. Does it not distract the one story from the other... if you know what I mean."

Bev, I tend to start a book and then sometimes get sidetracked with another great book. BUT I do tend to try and go back and read the 1s I started as well. If I find a book is gettin a bit tedious (in my opinion), then I will swap books or give up on it.

Hope that answers the question from my side sweetie xx

p.s, does depend on which book I take with me to places, cos I sometimes forget to grab a book (we sometimes think we r only in town and decide to go on a long bus trip afterwards), so I tend to pop to library and grab a good book (which never helps the TBR pile lol) x

message 564: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh ok.. good idea particularly if the book is of a tedious nature as you say. I ask as I'd love to do that with the many books I have bought and not read because I keep buying books and end up reading the recent purchases.. with the result I have about 12 books and more gathering dust on my shelf!(purchases as far back as a year.)So I was thinking to pick up the old with the new and in that way I just may get thru them! Don't mind me... I'm sure it sounds like I'm having a blond moment!!!

I have 6 bookcases full of books and still buy/borrow more lol xx

So i am not alone in this... its almost like a "drug"... but alot healthier!!

It's a logistical thing for me. I keep a book in my purse for car (store, etc) reading. Books in my backpack at work, and a book for evening reading. Also I feel I read faster that way (this might be fallacy), and also it helps to stave off possible boredom if a book is getting slow, since I do try to finish every book I start. Also I love short stories, and so I read short story volumes slowly over time.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) Oh it's so scary how many books I buy and own.

No I don't think its a fallacy... makes sense.. perhaps I should give it consideration. And yes, I hate to think the money we have all spent on books...small fortune no doubt.... but so rewarding in many ways.

I just finished Redeeming Love last night and I really liked it. I think I am going to try another book from
Francine Rivers

message 571: by [deleted user] (new)

This is by far her very best.. in my opinion Jackie M all her others pale in comparison. However, having said that, I have thoroughly enjoyed everyone of her other books. Happy Reading

TheReadingKnitter/ Kasey (thereadingknitter) I'm reading Brink of Death by Brandilyn Collins now...

Marisa (psyko_kittie12) | 398 comments I am reading the Shado Mosaic. It was on a list my library had of medieval mysteries and I have been working my way through it when the books are in.

message 574: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) I am still reading Storm Born. I may have to take a reading break after this one...which is disappointing because I have so many good books at home from the library that I haven't gotten to yet. I think I'm in that funk...too distracted and too much going on.

message 575: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) My problem is completely selfish and lazy. I just got cable. I tend to read during commercials but with dvr there aren't any. hahaha

I'm going to have a lazy/no tv watchin' weekend (besides my sons birthday party and a book club to attend). I'll read. That's it. :)

message 576: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimie476) I was in a rut with the book I've been reading too. It was the third in a trilogy and all the characters I actually cared for are dead. I put it down to start Something Wicked This Way Comes. My plan for this month is to read this and two other Bradbury Halloween-ish books, October Country and The Halloween Tree.

message 577: by Erin (new)

Erin (erinlouise429) im reading the shining by steven king. so far i like it a lot. i have seen the movie and its hard for me not to think about that while i am reading it but i still enjoy it. There is always a ton of stuff left out from the book when they make a movie.

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 654 comments I started Crocodile on the Sandbank by Elizabeth Peters. I think this is my first historical mystery and the first mystery in general that I've read in years.

message 580: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Still reading Case Histories - Kate Atkinson. Also decided to listen to American Wife - Curtis Sittenfeld (21hrs 30 mins) as this is a library copy and needs to be sent back before I go away on Friday lunchtime. Thanks, Jackie. The series was recommended to me by a friend too. I'm only about 50 pages into it, but so far the book is pretty good.

stormhawk | 1184 comments The Zombie Survival Guide - Max Brooks

This book should be very funny. And regarded overall, it is funny, however, the whole thing takes itself very seriously ... and it actually IS a practical guide to defending yourself and your loved ones from zombie attack.

There are a few things that I was wrong about, but I've corrected the problems with my survival plan and I am ready.

message 586: by Robyn (new)

Robyn (bamamom) | 27 comments I finished Debbie Macomber's latest Cedar Cove and really loved it. I'm started No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, but then I spotted Passion Flower by Diana Palmer so I switched to that one for now. Couldn't quite make up my mind which one to read.

Sorry for not responding sooner! I've not been online much lately (it feels like ages, though it's really only been about a week or so) so i din't notice a reply to my post right away!

Anyway, yo answer your question, I actually stopped reading it! It wasn't terribly bad or anything, it just didn't seem to be able to keep my attention for longer then a few minutes...And it had the distinction of being my first by her, and I was afraid If I'd kept at it, it would turn me off her witch series (the Fyne Witches I think?) which I've been wanting to read for awhile... I may get back to it again (so I'm not totally writing it off) when I can find it :)

does that help you at all?

message 591: by SoBeA (new)

SoBeA (sobe1982) | 39 comments So after a week of trying to figure out what to read, and starting books only to lost interest a few chapters in, I finally managed to finish Michelle Sagara's Cast in Shadow which was a pretty decent read (with only a few quibbles) and now I'm attempting Evangeline Anderson's Wishful Thinking :)

Joy, if you like both romance and paranormal, you should consider reading heather graham. I have read several of her books; the seance, the death dealer, the dead room, and so on. they are fun reads.

I just started reading Lover Revealed byJ.R. Ward. I'm having trouble getting into it, because I have never been interested in Marrissa or Butch. I LOVE the 2nd and 3rd books in the series, though! Zsadist is my favorite brother, so I def. recommend the 3rd book. :)
