stormhawk | 1184 comments Wobble to Death - Peter Lovesey

This book has been out of print for over 20 years!! Thanks to Amazon Kindle, it's available again!! *woot*

It's a mystery set in the Victorian Era. There was a PBS Mystery series based on these novels, which feature a Detective named Sergeant Cribb and his somewhat hapless Constable Thackery.

message 455: by Anne (new)

Anne Finished Undead and Unwelcome, and I liked it. I think I'll try to start Dark Lover today.

message 456: by Rita (new)

BJ Rose (bjrose) | 360 comments Listening to 'Time Traveler's Wife' again - just saw the movie and decided to go back to the book to compare. My hubby didn't read the book and was completely lost in trying to follow the movie.

Loved, loved, loved The Girl Who Played with Fire! Hope you enjoy it!

message 459: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) OMG....The Strain is CREEPY. I am not quite done yet.
I haven't had a book make my heart race in a LONG time. I LOVE it!

I'm sooo interested in this book now! What's it about, and why is it so creepy?

message 462: by Anne (new)

Anne Cool! I need to bump it up on my to-read list!

message 463: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) You definitely should Anne. I finished it last night and was SUPER disappointed when I found out none of the Ohio libraries carry the 2nd and 3rd books!!
BTW - these vamps are NOTHING like I've read in the past...more alien. It's almost like the only reason they are called "vampires" is because they consume blood. I am going to get the audiobook next to creep me out even more! lol

message 464: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) Oh maybe thats why lol! I didn't even notice, I was so anxious to read them. I have them on my list so hopefully I don't forget to search the library webpage for them next year!

message 465: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) It would absolutely make a great movie. They need something to make vamps creepy. I love the Twilight series BUT I also love when the vamps aren't lovey-dovey and will kill you without a second thought. I know, creepy. lol

message 466: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) I have it on my list I think. I know I checked the movie out once but never got around to watching it. I definitely want to read the book though.

Marisa (psyko_kittie12) | 398 comments I am currently reading Stiff by Mary Roach. I never thought that the things that happen to a dead body could be humorous!

message 468: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) I'm audiobooking Plum Lovin'. Some parts are pretty funny and I find myself chuckling at work. I think the co-workers think I've gone crazy. lol.

stormhawk | 1184 comments Bored of the Rings A Parody of J. R. R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings - Harvard Lampoon

This book was a whole lot better back when I originally read it, at least 28 years ago. Perhaps you have to be high to appreciate it.

message 475: by Fiona (Titch) (last edited Sep 18, 2009 03:04PM) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) About to read Succubus in the City - Nina Harper.

Lily has what looks like the perfect life: a fabulous day job at a fashion magazine; a killer figure she can literally never lose; and a great group of girlfriends who are always there for her. Oh, and she also just-so-happens to be a succubus: an immortal demon who draws her power from other men's pleasure. Although working for the Devil does have it's perks, Lily's realising that serving up bad boys to the fiery pits of Hell is just getting ...well, lonely. Just once, Lily would like to wake up in the morning to something more than a pile of ashes but, contractually bound to Satan, she will only be released if someone truly loves her. Then the devilishly handsome PI Nathan Coleman enters her life and Lily begins to wonder if he might be the man she's been waiting for. He wants to ask Lily a few questions about a missing man, but suddenly someone - or something - wants Lily and her demon friends dead, and Nathan seems to know more than he'll admit to. Can a sweet-talking mortal and a girl from Hell ever really find true love?

stormhawk | 1184 comments Seducing the Spirits - Louise Young

I'm very excited, as I won this book from FirstReads!! The novel is based on the author's experiences as a graduate student doing ornithology fieldwork in Panama, where apparently, she learns a lot about the native tribespeople on the remote island where she is stationed, and about herself.

Mad Hatter's Holiday - Peter Lovesey

The Peter Lovesey fest on the Kindle continues!

message 477: by Susanna (new)

Susanna (jb_slasher) Going to start Joe Hill's 20th Century Ghosts today or tomorrow. I rarely read short stories unless I'm reading an anthology featuring several authors. Joe here's a big exception, along with his father.

message 478: by Lynda (new)

Lynda I finished Lover Avenged. For me, it was my least favorite of the BDB series. I am going to reread Kitty takes a holiday by Carrie Vaughn before reading the others of the series I haven't read.

message 479: by Jackie (new)

message 483: by Anne (new)

Anne Finished Heiress For Hire by Erin McCarthy and The Colour of Magic (Discworld #1) by Terry Pratchett. I just startd Dead Over Heels by MaryJanice Davidson.

message 484: by BJ Rose (new)

BJ Rose (bjrose) | 360 comments Just finished Paradise Valley and I was disappointed. I was expecting a book mainly about Rick & Liz, but they were just one of several couples profiled. It was a good enough read, but not what I wanted (we readers do get demanding, don't we?!)

Now starting The Dream Thief - Zane will let me fill in the 'Z' on my A-Z Character Challenge!

message 485: by LaTrica (new)

LaTrica Finished Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass and it was so easy to read. Very fun. Now moving on to Stop Dressing Your Six-Year-Old Like a Skank And Other Words of Delicate Southern Wisdom before I through myself back into fantasy series.

message 486: by Marisa (new)

Marisa (psyko_kittie12) | 398 comments I am now reading An Act of Mercy by Peter Tremayne. It is another one of his Sister Fidelma novels that takes place in medieval Ireland. Some of the names of people and places are difficult, but other than that it isnt bad.

message 487: by Elena (new)

Elena I am reading Winter in Madrid, beautiful story.

message 488: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) I just finished "What Looks Like Crazy..." by Pearl Cleage for a book club my family started. I'm not much of an Oprah book reader...and now I know why. The ending was abrupt. No like. lol

Elvia (elvb) Anne wrote: "LOL! If Oprah likes a book I pretty much know it's not for me! "

That's exactly how I felt before reading it and decided to give it a try anyway. The whole story would have been better had it not been all surface writing...like she barely told a story. Right before the ending came I thought "oh now we're getting to the good stuff...drama, drugs, dirty pastor"..then it was just over. The book could have lasted at least another few chapters.

Ouch! I hate it when that happens! I guess some people must like that sort of thing, 'cause there are a lot of books out there like that. As far a Oprah goes, I'll start listening to her recommendations when she says something like, "I just found the best book about a professional wizzard named Harry! You guys have got to read it!".

message 495: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Just finished the marvellous Keeping the Dead - Tess Gerritsen. Will now read Genesis - Karin Slaughter.

message 496: by Elvia (new)

Elvia (elvb) LMAO Anne...very true! Wouldn't that be a great Oprah Show?! LOL

I'm getting very anxious to read The Lost Symbol but of course my library wait is over 600. I am going to buy it on Friday (hopefully).

message 497: by SoBeA (new)

SoBeA (sobe1982) | 39 comments Just finished Fragile by [Author:Shiloh Walker] and it wasn't what I expected at all...This may just be me, but it felt like she was trying to go all Nora Roberts one me...but since I'm a NR fan, it didn't really bug me, I just found it a bit surprising.

Last night I started [Author: Nalini Singh]'s Branded by Fire (and I'm already loving it!) ...and this morning I was looking for a specific book that I'm due to mail out, but got distracted by Linda Winstead Jones' 22 Nights though it's the second in a series, (where I haven't read the first book), so I'm hoping I won't be too confused.

message 498: by BJ Rose (new)

BJ Rose (bjrose) | 360 comments Finished The Dream Thief and LOVED it! Now, I have to get Queen of Dragons so I can read Maricara's story **sigh**

Just started Georgette Heyer's Cotillion and have been laughing over the silly conversation between Kitty & Freddie - Kitty is a potential heiress but must marry or she'll be destitute, but both are appalled at the idea of marriage, so of course Kitty proposes a faux betrothal; well, we know where that will lead, but I love the journey Heyer takes us on before the destination is reached.

I can't wait for Lost Symbol! I requested from the library on the day it came out, but I'm still #28 in line! Guess I shouldn't complain. 600? Wow!
I'm reading Succubus Dreams. So far, so good!

Jo, I loved A Dirty Job! Hope you enjoy it.
