Price matching to FREE on AMAZON

I haven't managed to get mine free either, and it's been months.

I just reported yours, Hana, though I've heard that Amazon doesn't care much if something's free on Smashwords. I hear they want to see it free on itunes, B&N, etc before they consider it true competition. I don't know how true that is.

Smashwords will distribute it, hassle-free, to all the above. I don't know which is best to use for reporting.

I'm not sure what made it work. I'd almost given up and no one had reported it for a while, then a couple more people did here, and they matched it. I had people use the itunes (or whatever it's called) link the last time. But I asked people to use a variety of links (Kobo, apple, Barnes and Noble).

Hi guys, I had this same problem -- my friends and I were reporting lower prices on my product page but nothing happened. I found it much more effective to simply contact KDP support under the "price matching" category and ask them to make it permafree. I provided the AISN number of my book and the links of the other retailers were it was free. I also told them that the next books in the series would be $4.99, so they understand my marketing strategy. They made it free in USA/Canada within two days. I then requested that they do the same in the UK/Australia stores and they complied immediately as well. I'm so happy!

Yes, I believe this method allows books to become perma-free on amazon. As for Smashwords, I know for a fact books can be set to free initially on publication. I have done so with around six separate short stories, as well as the mentioned fantasy anthology.

Thomas, I think they have to be in the U.S., so you could publish through Smashwords and match it to that if you want.

I reported the free smashwords link to amazon for you, and I hope it helps. But amazon rarely takes smashwords seriously, and usually only marks books as free if it is free on those other websites as well.

I reported both of those books for you, Charles. I sure hope that reporting it as free on Smashwords helps, but it usually doesn't. If you have it free on other places too, (like itunes, kobo, Barnes and Noble) then leave the links here. Other websites like those are what increase the likelihood that you will get Amazon's attention.

For the record books, Rhian did it on the June 15, it went free on June 18 late night, so it took at least 2 or 3 days to process.

Based on what I've seen, price-matching only works for a period of time, and then it reverts to 99 cents. I'll report back if/when my title reverts so people have an idea how long the permafree lasts.

More information: When you price-match, you are matching for only one country. An Amazon user in another country will still see the normal price. Maybe somebody from Canada, UK, Germany, India will need to report it as well?

Robert: my book was actually set for free for a Kindle Unlimited offer (it was coming to the end of its term, hence pushing for perma-free) for 24 hours.

It is now permafree, and that actually took more than a week - and I mobilised some readers to report it too. Good point about the territories. Mine is now free on US and UK, but not AU or CA.
