Beth Orsoff (bethorsoff) | 133 comments Hi guys,

I sometimes feel like the world's slowest writer but I FINALLY have a new book out. If anyone wants a free copy (ebook only at this time) in exchange for an honest review (you don't have to say you loved it if you hated it), send me a message. All I ask is that you (a) post a review here on GR and on one of the vendor sites (e.g., Amazon, B&N, Kobo, iBookstore or wherever you usually buy your ebooks from), and (b) don't upload the book to any pirate sites.

Here's the cover: The Billionaire Who Wasn't by Beth Orsoff

Here's the blurb:
If you can’t trust your family, who can you trust?
The FBI agent who insists your father was wrongly convicted?
The half sister who begs you to help her prove it?
The stranger who has no motive to lie?
Or that little voice inside your head that says all is not as it seems?

Nina Roth is having a horrible day. Actually, make that a horrible week. In fact, make it a horrible year. Unemployed? Check. About to be homeless? Check. Father’s an international pariah and Nina’s guilty by association? Check. What’s a former billionaire’s daughter to do? The only thing she can—swallow her fear, ignore that little voice inside her head, and embark on an international manhunt that will either save her life or destroy it, once and for all.

It's suspense, but it's humorous suspense.

If it sounds like something you're interested in reading and reviewing, send me a message.

Best,
Beth

I think a lot of us are behind on our reading. :)

Not everyone has to love Bridget. I read that book forever ago and it was what got me into chick lit, so I love it. The second one was good from what I can remember, and the third was only, eh. But to each their own!

We didn't do much for the 4th, but we are heading to Bay City to day for the Tall Ships Celebration. You know, the old-timey pirate type ships and stuff. It should be cool. If everyone would get their butts outta bed!!!

YES! That always seems to happen to me when I try to read just what I have in my house - I don't want to read any of the books I own. I tend to think about what I really feel like reading and go to the library and indulge (usually in something a little trashy like a cheesy romance) and then I snap out of it. :)

Becky | 73 comments My random thought for today....

I go on reading kicks. I will read 12 books in a row and then won't pick up a book for 6 months... Does this happen to anyone else?

message 1110: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (readthateventually) | 1215 comments Becky - that's me! I'm starting to hit a slump after reading so many books lately, but given my circumstances I know why.

I can't believe it's been so long since I wrote on this thread! I have had quite an emotional few months. I quit my job in March after it became unbearable, and, like an idiot, I thought it would be so easy to find a job. Nope. Interview after interview and I keep coming so close but nothing. We then lost Scott's grandfather, we had to put one of my dogs down last week, and now our wedding is this weekend. One emotion after another! This week it's a good thing I am unemployed as it is ALL THINGS WEDDING! I can't wait until it's over!

Some other things: I joined NetGalley and have been reading A TON of new books. I also joined Scribd and have been reading books I've been wanting to read for a long time. When we are back from our familymoon, I will have A TON of new books that I will need to read and finish!!

Good luck on your job search. Something will come along.

Bianca (bbollinger) | 761 comments Hi everyone! It's been a while since I've been on here. I just got married earlier this month and then we went on our honeymoon for 2 weeks and just got back this week. Things were crazy busy leading up to the wedding, so I'm just now getting back into reading and Goodreads. :)

How was everyone's summer? I believe yesterday was the first day of fall which means nothing for Texas - it's 95 degrees today haha. But I am still excited for the fall weather and fall clothes and pumpkins and Thanksgiving and then winter and Christmas and New Years and yay!!! I love this time of year!!! :)

BETH - I just wanted you to know that I'm love with your Vlad series!! I was seriously addicted to the books and flew through them. SO SO GOOD!! Just wanted to share with you and everyone because I totally recommend them. :)

I am totally going to read your new book (obviously since I loved Vlad) but I don't know when I'll have the chance to do it because I'm trying to finish up another book right now and then need to hurry up and finish all my library books so I can return them (I keep re-checking them out haha).

message 1118: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 767 comments I've missed this group!

I think last time we talked, I had just gotten laid off. Well I found a new job right away and it was horrible. I hated it and was miserable there. I lasted 3 months.

Now onto the good news. :)

I'm also getting married - October 15. It's coming up soon! We are doing a mini-moon right after for a few days, but the actual honeymoon is in April. We are going to Iceland and Copenhagen!! I can't wait.

I started a new job in August and I love it. I'm so much happier here.

It was good to read everyone's updates!

message 1119: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 767 comments Bianca & Kourtney, where did you go on your honeymoons?

message 1120: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (readthateventually) | 1215 comments Congratulations to you both Bianca and Suzanne! Suzanne - so great to hear about your job search! I'm getting a bit down about mine as I now have been out of work for about 7 months now. I stopped looking because of the wedding and honeymoon...but what company wants someone out of work that long? My phone has stopped ringing. I was getting calls initially and quite a few interviews, but it was always something that kept me from getting the job. This is the worst! But glad to hear that you found something that you love!

For our honeymoon we went to (1) Philadelphia to go to Sesame Street Place for 2 days (it was a family moon) then (2) Cape Cod for a week then (3) Scotland for our second wedding reception. It was a little over 2 weeks long!

message 1121: by Jill (new)

Jill Pierson-Kennard | 36 comments When I visited I loved Copenhagen. So beautiful and everyone was so friendly. I would love to go back sometime.

I'm loving the new job. It's not a 100% of what I would thought it would be, but I am loving being out of the classroom! My reading has slowed down a bunch. I come home so tired every evening and if I sit down for 10 minutes, I end up falling asleep!

Anyway, what is everyone up to this weekend?

message 1125: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 767 comments I got married! :) Our wedding was October 15. It was amazing and perfect and everything I hoped it would be. Only one minor problem... my SIL got mad because we picked the same song for our first dance. She stormed out of the reception afterward and now refuses to speak to me ever again. Other than that, everything was awesome. I don't think we can share pics on here, otherwise I would! We did a mini-moon after to a small town in Northwest Illinois and it was the perfect relaxing getaway we wanted. And now it's all over & everything is back to normal!

Omg your SIL was upset about that?! Maybe she was jealous because your dance was better haha. Did you guys take dance lessons or anything?

message 1127: by Julie (new)

Nope, we didn't take lessons or anything! We just did a regular slow dance to it. I do think she might have been jealous of my wedding in general. She kept making comments about how my ring was nicer and that I "copied" her. Our weddings were nothing alike! So I'm not sure what to think.

message 1131: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (readthateventually) | 1215 comments Congratulations Suzanne! Sounds like Thanksgiving will be tons of fun with her :) What was your wedding song?

My husband and I aren't big on the slow dancing together so we decided our song would be Shut Up and Dance. Very us. Now shut up and dance lol

Bianca (bbollinger) | 761 comments Haha Kourtney that's awesome!

Yeah, Suzanne, sounds like she was jealous then.

Bianca (bbollinger) | 761 comments So I've officially decided to start buying all my books as non-ebooks. We're moving into our first house next month and I want to have lots of shelves with books. :) Of course my sister made fun of me - "you know Kindles exist now right?" But whatever - I want lots of book-covered walls! Am I crazy for feeling that way? Sometimes I think that when I have to pack my books and move them I may be mad at myself a little. :)

message 1134: by Julie (new)

Julie I buy a lot of both. I buy hard covers in my favorite authors and buy a lot of trade-size when I find them on clearance at Barnes & Noble.

But yes.....they will be a pain to pack! LOL

I usually move every 1-3 years, and packing up and moving my books every time got to be such a pain. A few years ago, I took more than half of my books to Half Price Books. I am slowly building my collection back up, but I'm being very picky about what I buy. I would LOVE to have shelves full of books someday! My husband has two book shelves full of books and I have one that is about half full. We do plan on moving in another year, so I don't want to go too crazy right now. But I definitely don't think you are crazy at all! Packing does suck, though!!

Suzanne | 767 comments Kourtney wrote: "Congratulations Suzanne! Sounds like Thanksgiving will be tons of fun with her :) What was your wedding song?

Our song was "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You" by Bryan Adams. I know it's cheesy and a very common wedding song. It's my all-time favorite song and I've loved it ever since it came out. I always dreamed of dancing to it at my wedding. I have NO idea if the song is special to my SIL or what the story is, because she won't say.

We had a family dinner tonight and it was so awkward. The entire evening she basically pretended I was not there. She wouldn't even look in my direction or acknowledge me. I feel like she's going to hold this grudge forever.

message 1137: by Julie (new)

Julie I'm sorry Suzanne......maybe she will eventually get over it. What does your husband think? Could he talk to her, possibly?

message 1138: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 767 comments Julie wrote: "I'm sorry Suzanne......maybe she will eventually get over it. What does your husband think? Could he talk to her, possibly?"

She's my brother's wife. My brother has tried to talk to her, but she won't listen. My husband doesn't really know her. I don't think she'll ever get over it, but I do hope that she'll eventually be a little nicer when the whole family gets together.

Jencey/ (jencey) | 754 comments Hello! I know it has been a while. Congratulations to all the blushing brides. I finally feel like life is getting back to normal. I passed with flying colors all the latest doctor's appointments. I am still doing stuff with general surgery and dermatology. Mom is in the hospital again because she nicked her head on a cabinet which punctured the tubing for her shunt. She has been in the hospital since last Monday. The are hoping to do surgery tomorrow.

Bianca, If you go to the chicklitclub.com website will have a list of classic chick lit.

Bianca (bbollinger) | 761 comments Has anyone joined Book of the Month Club? I've been doing it for two months now and I LOVE IT!!!! Basically you pay monthly and you get to pick one of five books that these "judges" picked for the book of the month. You can skip that month if you don't like any of the books. And if you want to add any other books to your box, you can for $9.99 each. They are all hard covers and are actually cheaper than Amazon and everywhere else I looked. And since I'm trying to build up my book collection, this is great. :) I just ordered the new Amy Schumer book haha which I cannot wait to read. They books do have the BOM logo stamped on the cover, though, but other than that it's like the original book cover. I love it. I always look up reviews on Goodreads and for the most part they have pretty good reviews!

message 1144: by Bianca (new)

Bianca (bbollinger) | 761 comments Okay one more comment. Haha. Because I may or may not have had too much coffee this morning and can't stop talking. :) Yesterday I was reading articles about how books will one day probably become obsolete - everyone will just have ebooks only. I was so sad and literally almost started crying thinking about that day. I think that's also why I want to buy as many as I can in hard cover/paperback - they might become collectibles someday! Haha. Do you guys think that day will come? I hope not...

I read something earlier this year about how those stats are not valid. They were citing that the physical book realm has increased and the wave of ebook buying has leveled off. If I can find the article I will post it.

I will always buy physical books. I stare at computers and my phone all day long. I read ebooks on Scribd to try and save money, but I will always return to my physical books!

I saw the BOM and thought about it, but decided to sign up for Scribd instead. For $8.99 a month I get to read 3 books and an audiobook, plus access older books for free. Even though they are e-books, I've been able to read some titles that I would never have bought but have always been interested in.

Does anyone use Paperbackswap or Bookmooch anymore? I have alll these credits on PBS and can't even use them! Good books don't get posted anymore!
